B.F. Skinner's most well-known and influential theory was operant conditioning. He theorized that the consequences for a person's actions are what shape their behaviour, whether it is by reinforcement or punishments. His idea stated that these factors made it more or less likely that someone would repeat their behaviour.

Operant conditioning can have many valuable uses. Pets and other animals can be trained using both positive and negative reinforcement. The same can be said for human babies and children. It can be used by teachers in a classroom and managers in a workplace to promote the best possible behaviour out of students and workers. Whether or not it is noticed, operant conditioning is used all of the time in everyday life. When a child does something good, he may get rewarded for his behaviour (positive reinforcement). A child will do their chores to avoid being scolded by parents (negative reinforcement).
