The figures in the painting demonstrate lots of line work. You can very easily see all of the lines to point out their features. The figures are also abstract.

I feel sadness when looking at the painting because the faces on the figures look emotionless and almost lost. The figures are staring at the viewer and makes me feel weird.

I see unity in Pollack's painting because of the blue lines seen throughout. The same colors are used throughout so it makes it cohesive. The painting is asymmetrical since there is no consistence pattern, but there is balance in the painting. There is also rhythm in the painting because I can see a consistent beat and lets the painting flow.

I do like the choice of color in the painting and how they complement each other, but I do not like the overall composition. It is just too all over the place and I tend to like paintings that are more put together.

As I was drawing, I thought the subject matter represented people in a major city. There are multiple people seen in the image and the large letters reminded me of a big sign to a restaurant or bar. There is an image in the center that looks like a street and the images in the top left corner remind me of bridges.

The most used element of art I found in this image was shape. The shapes stood out most to me and are distinguished from one another by their color. I also see unity in the painting because although it is an abstract piece of art, it does all come together and looks whole. Many of the colors and images are repeated throughout the painting.

I do agree that any found object can be turned into art. When many people think of art they do think of sculptures or paintings, but anything can be turned into something beautiful. I do not really like some of the extremes that artists use like the bicycle wheel on a stool and a tea cup covered in fur, but it is artwork.

The first thing I thought of when looking at the sculpture was a feather. It has the same shape as one where it starts thin, gets wider in the middle and then gets thin again. It is gold so it makes me think that someone of higher status would use this. I like how simple this sculpture is and the gold really pops out which I was drawn to. This sculpture does seem to be nonobjective since there really is no object that is shaped like that.

The quote "The incoherent scrawls of
a frenetic old man in the antechamber of death." was from a critic meaning that Picasso was getting too old to be making art. Many thought his style was becoming unbalanced and uncontrolled due to his age. In the BBC film he proved this wrong when he was able to draw a perfect circle. He proved that his artwork was intentional and he had not lost his touch.

I do not agree with this statement because Picasso has proven over his career that everything he does with a piece of art is on purpose. Critics may not have agreed with this because they had never seen art like that before. Picasso's late work challenged traditional art because he took real life images and added abstractness to it. Picasso had such a large passion for art that even in old age he was still able to create masterpieces.

In most of Picasso's late work I do feel sadness while observing the paintings. The figures in most of his work have a plain face with little to no emotion.

I have always been fascinated with the ancient Egyptian pyramids. I find it amazing how thousands of years ago people were able to build something that intricate and large and made them out of materials that still continue to last.

The figures are not drawn to scale which could be done to show the larger figures as more important or of higher status. Anubis is by far the largest figure in the image which emphasizes his importance. The figures are also very flat and do not have many dimensions. The artist of this also used a very warm color palette for the figures.
