It's simple and keeps focus on the main subject. 

For Dystopia I was influenced by modern street-fashion, using vibrant, solid colours, and baggy clothing.
For the theme I was intrigued by the idea of an invasion of Earth, resulting in tragedy, explaining the rough environment of the backgrounds and scenery in the cover and pages.

For Utopia I went for a more minimalist approach and used a monochrome colour-palette. In my idea of a Utopia everything would be 'perfect' but resulting in apathy. Sending the message that a 'perfect world' may not be all it's made out to be.
To keep the environment interesting I added spots of plants and fauna. This stays with the minimalist approach but adds a sense of life.

Both for my main cover and back page I did a split-drawing, showing the differences and similarities in a close comparison. I have decided to go along with a dystopian theme. In the year 2050, the economical class gap has become so divided and unfixable. In addition to this, global warming and climate change have made the earth inhospitable, leaving it's people helpless and in great danger.

However, to save humanity itself,  governments from across the globe have united with NASA to make planets such as Jupiter and Mars a safe place for civilians to live and prosper.

Sadly, it is only the richest people that are saved and sent to live on this new land, leaving the poor and less fortunate to perish on the corrupt earth. 

This piece is based on the class gap, and privilege.

The idea behind my zine is that the front cover shows an article from next year, and then the back cover shows the same article but dug up in 2050. Several photos I have saved on my OneDrive based around the "zine" are intended to be merged into one another in a way to satirise dystopic/utopic outcomes of the future. In the example below, I have morphed a Burmese cat's face onto a Ragdoll cat's body. I've done this out of juxtaposition, wherein the Ragdoll's dominant exterior contrasts with the miniscule Burma's miniscule childlike nature. This is representative of my rendition of what thirty year's time could turn out to be; a massive threat (global warming) is reduced to something more farcical, based on how people cope with the crisis. That coping being expressed in a nonchalant and adaptive manner.

I chose it because it's one of the aspects on design I struggle the most with. Trying out different options has helped make shading a less difficult factor. Whenever I shaded before this, I always stuck to cross-hatching the shadowy areas of my objects. Now that I've practiced different patterns, it feels like I can alternate between methods. In the example below, I've managed to complete 6 differing methods of shading (5 if you take away a technique I've already established as being the easier option.) Progress on the zine is moving steadily I've got some good ideas and I've learnt some good skills to follow through on those ideas. I currently have two designs in the works. A utopia version and a dystopia version, although technically they are both dystopia.

I haven't created all 8 pages for this design but I have created some mock ups of what the final design could look like. The utopia design is based on a fairly simple concept but not something i think anyone else in the class really considered. My thinking was that in a utopia here on earth in 30 years, we are probably going to be eating some pretty similar stuff. Yes maybe the way we produce these foods will have changed but the food themselves will probably remain fairly similar. Unfortunately I couldn't help myself and I decided to add a sort of 'the government is hiding the truth' kind of thing, which I didn't intend to do but i feel as though it makes the zine a little more interesting as it is primarily just pictures of food.
