The child has sorted and grouped pictures of different animals. The first grouping was by where animals are found (in water + at the edge of water, for the frog), in the wild, and on a farm. The second grouping was by whether the animals had tails or not. The child was engaged and enjoyed this activity. This is an independent activity.

This is a remote learning task from last week. I read a book by Pamela Allen that is about a duckling named Alexander. Alexander is always straggling behind his mother and the other ducklings. Before going into lockdown, the children had been making maps - lots of maps. In response to this story, Novak (aged 4) has drawn a map that shows where the ducklings went before Alexander fell down a deep hole! Novak's drawing shows that mother duck took them out from the pond with a spouting fountain, through the wrought iron gates of the Botanic Gardens, past the Sydney Opera House (with the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the near background) and past the strange looking bottle tree! Novak also includes the hole that Alexander fell into. There was a lot of talk on zoom, before the children worked individually on their maps at home. The task requires a retelling (literacy) and in drawing a map requires the child to sequence the landmarks.
