I work in childcare, Im a co-lead teacher in the infant room. We had to have lessons plans that state require us to have and do. One of the things I do with the older babies (1 yr and up) was imitate sounds and facial expressions. Soon after, they began to copy me. Then, again understand my facial expressions. Therefore, when we do songs, have circle time, during lunch time; they are using what they observed from their teacher.
I really did not recognized that what I was doing was active learning. Almost everything I do now in my classroom, I connect it with these meaningful learning strategies.

I am the one of the youngest siblings of 3 older sisters and I have a twin that is 7 minutes younger then I am. After, reading about active learning I realized that I did it as a child with my siblings. especially when it came to doing things that we weren't suppose to do, then seeing the punishment that came with it. My sisters call me the "good" child because I always did what I was told. However, after observing what my sisters did and then what my parents did after; of course I did what I supposed to do. Therefore this was me in an active learning state.

Im know most students especially in college that have assignments/projects that are constructional meaningful learning. This Assignment right now is one of them. When I first read the chapter, to be honest I was confused when grasping the context. However, when doing this Assignment, I was put into a real world perspective. We as students are reflecting from different personal experiences of meaningful learning, and from what we have already done, to now learning in the course. We have this physical and mental thinking about what we are going to do. What we are going to recognize and understand. Then, explain our experience. We as learners are using different processes to construct our experiences.

When learning to drive, you have to read a book about the laws, maybe Evan take a drivers education course. Evan before you ever put your hand on the wheel. You un-subconsciously almost already know how to drive. integrating past knowledge with new experience. For example; one of the things you read about is getting into wrecks, and once the initial crash happens what is the legal thing to do. Yes, you have read that in the manual and learned that in your course. If you ever were in a wreck with your parents or someone else then you see what they do and experience that first hand. you have past knowledge about it. Fast-forward to your first time learning how to drive you can reflect back to that experience then construct that process. This happened to me, when I took my drivers course, and learning to drive. I reflected on my past experiences. That to be is a type of constructive meaningful learning.

My last semester at SWTCC I had a huge project in my Education Seminar class. I had to co-tecah the class with two other peers from the course. Which was so rewarding to be because of how much we learned from each other. The reason that we all three took something from the lesson that we were taught that the others didn't think about. Its funny that, not acknowledging that working together on something with peers is not seen as something that most classes need to do often. This is obvious that students will take something like cooperative learning have have a meaningful experience.

I work at a childcare center, so often I have to collaborate with my co-worker on lesson plans and activities for the children. We come together once a week while the kids are napping and plan whether its in person or texting. We take turns on who does the morning activities and afternoon activities and decide on. when to do it. We as teachers want too make it as meaningful to the students because a lot of things that we introduce to our babies will help them grow and make connections later in life; such as fine motor skills, using crayons, sensory play, etc.

(real picture of one sensory activity)
also, they are conversing about the apples, describing them and colors etc.

In my into to education class I had to take field experience and within that field experience I got to help 3rd graders excel in their readings. Which, what really got me wanting to go into teaching. I was paired with a couple of students. I got to get to know my peer group and help them read/answer questions about the readings. That to me is as authentic as you can get other than actual student teaching. I got to experience what it was like realistically, help students with reading. Instead of just reading about it in the textbook. This was probably my favorite experience with meaningful learning.

In high school I had to take a child development and life skills class, and at the end of the year we got to take home a baby simulator. It did almost everything that a baby does and connected our class to the real world. Its probably the most authentic and realistic tool that can be used in a life skills class. It did simulate real world experiences, and gave us insight on what it was like to have a baby.

When in middle school, I was in a class that went to the computer lap almost every week- sometimes more than once a week. The teacher would teach us how to make presentations, movies, how to work almost anything that can be used as a visual. Back then, I thought it was amazing because we weren't learning through reading plain books, it was something different. Well what I didn't know then, but do now, was that her goal was to teach us about the different technology that she knew we would need moving up. To think about it, even though I may not remember a bunch from the lessons she taught, I remember when I got up to a higher grade I was very advance with these skills because of her intentional learning goal for us.

Part of that class was to go to Greece in the end of the course, everything leading up to that helped us for our Greece project. Our objective was to learn different shots, how to take certain picture, and sceneries. Our final goal was to travel to Greece and use what we had learn. All while learning and experiencing a different country and culture. A truly amazing experience!

pictures I took to help me prepare for Greece " framing "
