1970-1981 studied at the 5th secondary school in Klaipėda, from 1971 At the Klaipėda Music School, he sang in the boys' choir "Gintarėlis". He spent the summer with his grandparents in the village of Būdviečiai. in 1981 after failing the maths exam and failing to study economics at Vilnius University, he worked as a sanitarian at a medicine warehouse in Klaipėda. 1982-1987 studied at VU Faculty of Industrial Economics.

Father - Antanas Nausėda (1929–2022), engineer, head of the Klaipėda pulp mill. energy engineer, was born in the village of Būdviečiai. Mother - Ona Stasė Nausėdienė (1932–2014), physics and mathematics teacher, was born in the village of Lazdininkai.           Sister - Vilija Nausėdaitė (b. 1959), economist.Wife - Diana Nepaitė-Nausėdienė (b. 1964), engineer-technologist, married in 1990. They had daughters Gedailė and Ugnė with her.

While studying at Boston University, he asked a friend from Atlanta named Mary Powell, a student at the New England Conservatory of Music, if she knew any nice Southern girls. Powell spoke to fellow student Coretta Scott; Scott was not interested in dating preachers but eventually agreed to allow King to telephone her based on Powell's description and vouching.
