Land Bridges: A land bridge is a piece of land that connects larges masses of lane (such as two continents). It helped people migrate from Asia into North America. Now the land bridge is underwater.
Vikings: The Native Americans and Vikings were peaceful with each other. They traded and helped each other. Then the Native Americans attacked the Vikings after they believed they had been poisoned.
Reasons Not to Explore: Believed there were sea monsters, thought the sun might boil the sea, square sails on ships made it hard to sail, not many maps
Martin Waldseemuller's Map: Many geographical errors, most of North and South America are missing, the Atlantic Ocean is too small, the shape of the Earth is not correct.
Marco Polo: Marco Polo explored Asia and told stories about his travels. He wrote about all of the things he saw in Asia. This was the first time the Europeans heard about the resources they could trade for from the Far East.
Christopher Columbus: Cultural Diffusion is the spread of cultural beliefs from one group of people to the other. Christopher Columbus and the Tainos traded goods. Columbus brought a few of the Tainos back to Spain to learn Spanish.
Systems:
Trade: explore to find new resources to trade, find new trade routes
Government: claim more land. More land = more power
Economy: Find new resources to sell, search for gold
Religious/Cultural: spread religions, spread culture
