I had a new student move in a few weeks late. He is the baby of 3 and they were all rough boys. When he came in he swore up and down that he couldn't read. Well we worked and worked. We set mini goals and he took pride in accomplishing them. Well by the end of the year, he went from an AA to a G. One of the best things I have learned from my journey of 2 years, is that as a mother, wife, teacher, daughter all those things, the most important thing is to take care of myself and my needs.
