I learned that immigration was big during the 1800's and 1900's. People immigrated because of many different circumstances. Some circumstances that made people immigrate were- safety, family, money, jobs, security, etc... I learned that the United States is made up of Immigrants from all parts of the world and the United States is called a Melting Pot for this same reason.
The immigrant that I decided to research was Annie Moore. Annie more was born in Ireland. Her reason to immigrate was to reunite with her parents, who had immigrated into the United states in 1898. She is known as the first immigrant to get processed through Ellis Island in 1902. She was only 17 (but told everyone she was 14 to get a lower ticket rate) when she immigrated and her 2 younger brothers, Phillip and Anthony, imigrated with her. She has two statues in her honor, one is in Ireland and the other at Ellis Island.
