The goal in the first commercial to gain viewers interest by sexual appeal and the title speaks for itself, "the man your man could smell like." They make you want to go out and buy it.

The second commercials goal is to gain public awareness about the dangers of texting and driving, and they do this by using a scare tactic which puts the images into the viewers head and hopefully they'll think about those images next time they want to text and drive.

The first commercial is a comedic view of sexual appeal. Smell nice, get a girl. Or a guy. I find it funny because the guy featured is most certainly not your average man nowadays.

The second video isn't just a commercial, it's a reenactment of a real life situation that's keeps happening over and over.

The goal of the first commercial is to try to get viewers to buy old spice. It's more so directed towards women by using sex appeal. I think this commercial is a bit foolish overall because the body wash a man uses doesn't determine if the person they are with will find them more attractive.

The goal of the second commercial is to bring awareness to the danger of texting and driving. This commercial shows how just a split second of being distracted can end in a very catastrophic way. I think these type of commercials are so important because they inform people of just how danger this situation could be.

The first example is a commercial spot using comedic exaggeration to pitch its message to you, the consumer, that the scent in this product is better than the competition products because it will make you smell the best, making you irresistible to the opposite sex, which is what you are always aiming for, right?

The second media example is a public service announcement warning the public against texting and driving, another form of distracted driving. It uses strong visuals to shock the viewer and demonstrate in a memorable way how fast an accident can happen.

The first commercial uses imagery and language to subtract from someone's self-worth. It creates a problem and then offers a solution to that problem. It also uses humor to try and mask the underlying message of what is actually being said, which is something along the lines of you're less than what everyone wants you to be, but buy our product and it might help a bit. The goal of this commercial is to sell a product.

The second commercial uses a young actress to really pull at the heartstrings of the audience and grab their attention. It also uses background noises and radio music to show that this is a common occurrence that can lead to a devastating outcome. The goal of this commercial was to persuade people to stop distracted driving.

The first commercial wants you to buy the Old Spice body wash. It presents a comedic presentation that the user of the product shares something desirable with the person in the ad. The entertainment suppled by the ad is what the commercial desires the buyer to assciate with product. This good feeling will influence the purchase.

The second commercial goal is to prevent texting and driving. It shows a young girl texting her mom while driving leading to an off camera accident. It is a dramatic effect. Watching the girl looking at her screen for extended period of time builds tension. You could even hear the road noise which tells there was activity on the road. The drivers final text to her mom is to say she will be back home soon. That may not be the case. This commercial dramatically highlights the dangers of texting and driving and motivates parents to highlight the dangers to their children and for said children to be aware of the dangers of texting and driving.

- Michael Taylor

The first commercial is wanting women to buy Old Spice for their men because if they don't "smell like a man" they are no good to them and not worth having as they are not manly enough. It also implies that good things will happen if he wears Old Spice.

The second commercial is a stark reminder of the consequences of texting and driving aimed at younger people and is intended to show them the consequences of not paying attention to the road and shows what could happen with distracted driving.

The first commercial uses the man's sex appeal to persuade us that we need to buy old spice. The comparison to himself and other men is meant to be humourous, but it is insulting and isn't very respectful. I find this inappropriate, and l probably wouldn't buy Old Spice based on this.

The second commercial is meant to be informative. It shows the hard truths of texting and driving. The fact is that it only takes one moment of distracted driving to change your life and someone else's life. It also is persuasive in a positive way; it asks us to be aware and accountable for our actions concerning distracted driving. It also targets a younger demographic, and it is a possibility because macro-level statistics show that they are the largest age group for texting and driving.
