Alcohol, Tobacco and drugs can affect your body in many terrible ways. These substances are known to be really addictive and it’s very hard to stop taking them. However, there are many different ways to get help and treatment such as outpatient behavioral treatment which allows people to come in at different times to get the treatment they need. Also there is a residential treatment programs which allow the patient to remain in a stable home for about 6-12 months. This treatment is normally for people who have a worse condition and it’s what’s best for them. Like it says in the iBook, “Behavioral treatments help patients engage in the treatment process, modify their attitudes and behaviors related to drug abuse, and increase healthy life skills”. There are many treatments out there for people who suffer with this everyday it’s just up to the person if they want to take that first step into recovery.

I have a person in my life who suffered with drug use and opioids my whole life. This addiction took away my relationship with this person and made my childhood different than most kids. Growing up around this is very hard because seeing someone you love struggling is never easy. When I was 5 this person began to go to a rehabilitation center and I saw so much progress. That was not until she got out and relapsed. At this time in my life I never really realized how much this person was struggling until I got older it all changed. They were in and out of different programs and even ended up in jail at one point. Addiction is something no one should joke about because it really can ruin your life and everyone around you. This person from what I know is doing so much better now after getting the right treatment and finally owning up to her mistakes. She got the help she needed for herself and her kids and I’ve never been more proud of her. I look back at her mistakes and instead of teaching me to do that I learned to stay away from it all. The risks are not worth risking a relationship with someone you love.
