carina's mother died when she was just fourteen and watching her father move on so quickly, watching him not mourn the loss of her mother and move on the next wife like it was mother, that solidified carina's choice. she left the house at fifteen and moved in with her father's sister in korea where she'd finished high school and moved out and changed her name to 'carina griebel', not telling her father where she'd be going.

carina graduated with honors in medicine and went onto get her Ph.D in medicine.
