1910 Subpart D - Walking Working Surfaces

Walking working surfaces are maintained free of hazards such as sharp or protruding objects, loose boards, corrosions, leaks, spills, snow, and ice.

Training and Corrective Action - The employees will be trained on how housekeeping procedures and where all the materials need to be stored. This will require a shift schedule where the employees will be required to maintain their workplace to a free tripping hazard work area.

1910 Subpart Z - Toxic and Hazardous Substances

1910.1201 (a)- Any employer who receives a package of hazardous material which is required to be marked, labeled or placarded, shall retain those markings, labels, and placards on the package until the packaging is sufficiently cleaned of residue and purged of vapors to remove any potential hazards.

Training & Corrective Actions- This will require employees to be trained on the proper procedures when handling chemical containers. This will cover the proper labeling and using the correct container for the specific chemical. 1910 Subpart Z - Fire Protection

1910.157(c)(5)-The employer shall assure that portable fire extinguishers are maintained in a fully charged and operable condition and kept in their designated places at all times except during use.

1910.157(e)(1)-The employer shall be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and testing of all portable fire extinguishers in the workplace.

Training & Corrective Action- This hazard will require the company to conduct a training for their designated safety personnel on how to inspect and document inspections of their fire extinguishers. This fire extinguisher will need to be removed until a specialist can inspect the fire extinguisher and provide new inspection labels.

1910.334(a)(2)(i)-Portable cord and plug connected equipment and extensions cords shall be visually inspected before use on any shift for external defects (such as loose parts, deformed, and missing pins...) and for evidence of possible internal damage.

Training & Corrective Actions- This hazard will require the workplace to conduct training on how to inspect electrical equipment. This will cover on what defective electrical cords and equipment the employees should be aware of such as the missing ground pin. This will also require corrective actions which will bring a thorough inspection of all electrical equipment. As well as discarding any broken or defective electrical cords and equpments.

1910.1200(h)(2)(iii)-Employers shall be informed of the location and availability of the written hazard communication program, including the required lists of hazardous chemicals, and safety data sheets required by this section.

Training & Corrective Actions-This will be a hazard since the employee does not know the location of the material safety data sheet. If the employee was exposed to a chemical or if there was an accidental chemical spill, he will not know where to find the SDS to find the next required steps to either clean the spill or remove the chemical from himself. The employee will require training on the location of the SDS Book and instructed on how to read it. Subpart I- Personal Protective Equipment

1910.133(a)(1)-The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation.

Training & Corrective Actions- This is an obvious hazard that can have potential risk of receiving an injury. Whenever a worker is operating some type of machinery or hand powered tools, standard personal protective equipment such as gloves or googles are to be used. The whole workforce will receive training on hand protection and will be discussed for every weekly safety meeting.

1910.141(g)(2)-No employee shall be allowed to consume food or beverages in a toilet room nor in any area exposed to a toxic material.

Training & Corrective Actions-This will be a violation because workers should only be allowed to eat in the designated area to eat their food. This prevents the workers from contaminating their food from toxic chemicals or other materials that may be present in their workplace. Subpart O-Machinery and Machine Guarding

1910.212(a)(3)(ii)-The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. 

Training & Corrective Action- This will be a hazard since the machinery does not have any type of guarding. Machine guarding prevents the employees from getting a part of their body stuck into the machinery and can result into a severe injury. In this scenario, the machine will be put out service until guarding are installed. This will then require all type of machinery to be inspected to look for any missing guarding or where it is needed.

Training & Corrective Actions-This will be serious hazard risk, as workers nearby might be struck by the speeding forklift. This will require a refresher training for driver. There will also post speed limit signs and as well as forklift training to be given to employees.

1910 Subpart S-Electrical

1910.303(b)(7)(i)- Unused openings in boxes, raceways, auxiliary gutters, cabinets, equipment cases, or housings shall be effectively closed to afford protection substantially equivalent to the wall of the equipment.

1910.305(b)(1)(i)- Conductors entering cutout boxes, cabinets, or fittings shall be protected from abrasion, and openings through which conductors enter shall be effectively closed.

Training & Corrective Actions- All electrical cabinets must be closed when they are not in use. This can present a hazard as it can expose the wiring to damage such as corrosion or abrasion. There are other potential hazards that can cause the wiring to be damaged. For this reason, the employees will be remined that all electrical cabinets must be closed and should be incorporated into their electrical hazard trainings.
