One reason why is because there is another industry, the OTT. The OTT stands for over the top, it is a network where people are able to stream online. An insight on what I learnt today is that Bollywood's industry is in a fantasy realm and I say that because most of the movies made are love stories. I learned about the immense effort put into a single movie and the enormous unit required to make a single shot look perfect. The session also allowed me to look at the industry through a different lens as I learned about the struggles they are facing due to covid. Through this informative session, I learned about not only the about the structure of the industry itself, but I was also made aware of the different struggles one faces, with the imposition of the lockdown, as their social/safety blanket reduces in this system. With the enforcement of pandemic regulations, the cost of producing a film increased with the parallel loss of jobs. The profitability of the OTT platform does not level up to the mutually beneficial chain established in physical platforms such as the theatre which, on an overall basis reduces it's economic gain. The already disorganized industry only became more unpredictable post pandemic.

Those projects still in the pre-production phase will not be affected much by the pandemic since that phase only involves writers discussing beats and modelling (and even re-modelling) the script with the executive producers and the director. Those projects in production however will be impacted severely by the pandemic. Staffs will have to be shortened and the menial labour side of the industry will be unemployed. The post production phase will not be impacted however since this process involves largely the editing part of the project. Though this lens of cinema might seem strange and remote, much is expected from this cinematic variation since creative freedom has never been so unhindered.
