Which of the two earthquakes was worse and why? 2010 earthquake was bigger, This was caused by the movement along fault lines west of the city. It was a 7.1 and the second earthquake was a 6.3. What was the size difference between the two earthquakes? 0.8 difference. On the Richter Scale diagram, why are the levels colored differently, do you think? I think it is so it can show how light color means a light earthquake and a dark color like red is way more dangerous.

What do the diagrams on slide 5 show? I think it show the trampoline effect. What three factors caused the intensity of the earthquakes?
1.it forces the ground upwards. The weaker layer is faster moving then rock.
2.When the top layer falls back down, it slaps the lower layer in a similar way to an object landing on a trampoline.
3.the solid layer forces the top layer up wards again this is why it is caused a trampoline effect.
