What is the etiology of the disease?
-The etiology comes from a mole, that medically speaking are called ''nevos'', and it depends on where the mole is found, that is the etiology.

How serious is the disease and how does it affect the patient ́s current lifestyle?
-Melanoma is a cancer, which can become severe if it is not treated or diagnosed on time. 

What is the patient ́s prognosis?
-The prognosis is good if it is attended on time, if the treatment is given on time. 

What was the patient ́s chief complaint? (Why did he come to see you?)
-He are she comes because that part of the skin hurts, or the spot (mole ) is growing or deforming, or the appearance of a red spot in the mole.  

What other symptoms does the patient have?
-There could be spots, red spots, red moles. 

How was the patient tested for the disease and what did those tests reveal?
-When the doctor, which is an oncologist surgeon, looks at the injurie, nevo, spot or melanoma, a surgery is done. What does this mean? That the surgery is made as precise as possible, so no borders are left, then, it is sent to the laboratory of pathology. Usually, the diagnosis is there: in the anatomic laboratory of pathology. That is the exact diagnosis. 

What were the patient ́s treatment options?
-The treatment is surgical, that is the first treatment.  

What treatment did the patient receive, and how effective was it?
-It depends on where the injurie is located. Firstly, the injurie is removed, the borders should be clean. What do I mean by saying this?  When operating, there should not be any injurie in the borders, that's number 1. When the patient also presents a risk, sometimes, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy can be used. 

What would happen to the patient if he didn ́t receive the treatment?
-If the patient doesn't receive treatment and is diagnosed with melanoma, chances are that metastasis can occur in any other part of the body, often to the lymph nodes, and he or she could die.  

What new technologies now exist for preventing, diagnosing or treating this disease? 
-The new technologies are the medical exams, the patient should be examining his or her spot, and if there are present any of the tings I told you in the beginning, he or she must have to check it constantly.

What is the purpose of the treatment?
-To cure the patient, if the prognosis is good, she or she could get cured.

We could heard from a specialist on the different treatments any person with melanoma can get to get cured. Either way, we investigated some information so we could learn much more than just having one doctor's perspective.  It was great working with the group and learning about a really important disease and actually happening right know, skin cancer.

Andres- I have learned a lot of new things related to melanoma or skin cancer. At the beginning I wasn´t sure or didn´t know much information of skin cancer.  Through the months and the 5 activities we did, I learned important information of what is melanoma, how to detect it, how to prevent it. Really important knowledge that will help in my life. My conclusion about melanoma is that it is one of the scariest and most dangerous types of cancer. If it isn´t detected and cured, it may result in a very tragic situation. But if it is detected on time, it can be stopped from its growth and expansion. By working with my team I learned to respect and collaborate with them in order to have an excellent work.

Daniel- During this course and thanks in particular to this project, I learned about the type of cancer knwon as melanoma. To be more aware about this disease, we (the team) had to go attend a variety of doctors. From this, from doctors, and also a bit by ourselves, from both parties we understood how diffcult this cancer in particular can get to be, starting because moles can grow any where in the body's surface and also due to the fact that a diagnosis can be assimilated only when a mole has appeard. Treatment is another thing that I learned and the variety of which you can find depending on the type of cancer.

Alan- With this project I learned how dangerous is melanoma (a type of skin cancer). We went with general doctors about how this disease can be treated on patients and what I learned on the diagnosis is that they make a small incision in your skin and examine it to detect melanoma. A way to detect if a person presents this disease is to pay attention to the moles on the skin if they are asymmetric or they present a change in size this way it's easier to know if there is a possibility in the melanoma disease being present on the person. If not treated in time the disease may spread throughout different parts of the body making it almost impossible (if not impossible) for the patient to be cured. It's a dangerous disease (just like cancer) that it may or may not be cured. Depending on the time detected and the patient's situation.

Miriam- This course was focused on the types of systems in the body and their common diseases. One may not think of what is behind a specific type of disease, but thanks to this course, and to this project that we held during the whole semester, I can say that I really got to understand more deeply the disease that our team chose, which was melanoma. During the project, we were asked to interview, search, and investigate basic concepts of the disease, which led us to the knowledge we now have. One of the things that I realised, for example, is that we are constantly living under what makes us susceptible to this disease, like when we want to get a tan, and thanks to this project, I learned ways to prevent melanoma.
