I decided to do a pathway on her this year because she gets very excited around other dogs, so it is very hard for her to focus on dog agility.For the last three years she has been very hard for me and dad to handle at dog agility - sometimes dad and I were both coming home in tears.
Just recently I went to dog camp and I was really hoping we would find someone to help us calm Fern down. Sure enough we did. Louise was with us every step of the way - encouraging, supporting and giving us really helpful tips.
 
Using experts help,websites and books, I hope to have a dog that is calmer and more focused on me at dog agility by the end of this pathway.

We would bring her near the agility course and if she lost it we would take her away, hold her against our legs and wait for her body to relax,  then take her back to the excitement. We repeated this for as long as it took her to realise that we are at the dog park to do dog agility - not to bark and pull. Unfortunately it was not what we hoped for Fern went beserk! She was pulling and barking more than ever, she was crazy! So I tried doing agility with the lead on and she did it perfectly until a dog zoomed past and then she lost it again. Dad was going to blow so we had to go home early. Though I did notice that once she gets going she’s fine but all the waiting and watching the dogs run past just gets her really hyped up.

Mark Vette is a great animal trainer and he and his team have trained basically every animal you see on the television.
 
Unfortunately Fern hasn't been the best behaved dog at dog agility recently, though she is getting better…. slowly. I am also thinking of joining a course called 'Dog Zen' run by Mark Vette on his website and costs $67 a month so I'd better get working.

At present we are still going to classes and Fern has improved since we started, 2 years ago. Even though she gets highly excited while we waiting, she has improved in doing the agility courses and doesn't run off as much.
I think in the future, as in a year from now, Fern and I will be taking a 'canine good citizen' course to help Fern improve more.
