Henry Morton Stanley is an american explorer and journalist, though, he is also responsible for the death of so many people because of the way he was one of the leaders of the Congo and how he lied about his true goals within the Congo. another reason he is to blame is because of the way he would put everyone to work but himself, yet when cameras were near he acted like the upstanding leader everyone thought he was. the text also states that Henry Morton used to beat and kill the Africans that refused to work at all or even just in the harsh conditions. the last piece that shows he is to blame is the way that he had full control over what people would do, say, and hear when they were working under him. he didn't show any remorse for the ones who couldn't work, even if they were sick. this shows how he truly only cared about the money, and fame that came with his suspicious act. not the people being harmed.
