After her mother came home she looked and in the fridge and asked where it went, Jeanette replied with "It was the only thing we had to eat in the whole house... I was hungry" Apparently admitting that you were hungry was one of their unspoken rules.  Her mom shouted " Its not my fault your hungry... do you think i like living like this?" (Walls, 69). Se shouldn't be blaming her kids for this if she wanted to turn their life around then that what she should do.
