Directions: Research a Biomedical Innovation of your choosing. If you don't have any in mind - you can easily find examples to choose from by searching 'medical innovations' in a browser.
Click on the "Add Column" and add your name. Click on the "+" sign under your name to add a new section. Follow the example in the first column.
When you finish, add stars to other peoples and add at least one comment to someone's.

The development of conventional pacemakers is already considered a great biomedical innovation, but the transformation to smartphone-connected pacemakers is a much more fascinating and convenient innovation. A smartphone connected pacemaker device utilizes Bluetooth and a phone app to remotely monitor a patient's heart beat, eliminating the need for other monitoring systems. These connected devices allow patients greater insight into the health data from the pacemakers and transmit the health information to their physicians.

This article gives 35 instances where artificial intelligence is being used across the medical field and AI healthcare was one of them. The majority of AI used in the medical field is by Machine Learning (algorithms that can automatically learn new topics by themselves.) which makes them understand more as more happens. Natural language processing is one of these types of AI, and can utilize medical notes to better understand methods and give better results to patients. There is also AI in the administrative parts of the medical field that help with clinical documentation, claims processing, and medical records managing.

Biomarkers are used to assess whether the body is responding normally or abnormally to treatments and the progression of a condition or disease. A vocal biomarker will be an indicator of using audio signal to monitor the patient, diagnose, severity of their condition, or effects of treatment. They have been used to perform in the field of Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cardio vascular Disease, Mental Health, and Covid 19. In working within these it may help to monitor and diagnose early on with vocal characteristics, respiratory sounds, verbal interactions, and language. However, there are many challenges when it comes to surveying and using vocals. Such as the establishment of a standard type of voice recording, data collection, and audio preprocessing. As well using this information to fully extract and use the audio. Overall, it has a long way to go for a clinical routine use.

In this article it explains how scientists and doctors use Bionics as a mechanical system that helps function living organs or parts of living organisms in this case humans. Such as bones, muscles and the nervous system. Bionics are used for limbs, prostheses which are then used to replace a missing body part which may have been lost due to trauma, disease, or congenital defect. This mechanical system will help give back some movement and function that was lost. Although there is still some work and things to do for this system to be successful. Scientists goals for this system is to be lighter, smaller, and better controlled for the person using this system feels comfortable and safe to use.

Traditional vaccines are what we depend on to help fight off diseases but this takes many years. Since they are so many new diseases we need a way to come up with vaccines faster which is where mRNA comes up. mRNA vaccines provide safe long lasting protection. For example with covid-19 it was a new and fast disease that we needed a rapid development of a vaccine. mRNA works by mimicking a viral protein and tricks the immune system into mounting an immune response against the invader. Then powerful antibodies are produced which provides long last protection against the viral infection. Even though this not really new, covid-19 helped bring it out to the open, on a new way to fight against diseases.

This apparatus works by using a breathing circuit with an inspiratory limb that delivers heated humidified gas to the baby. Then, there is an expiratory that is immersed in some water and its purpose is to create the desired pressure for the baby. The machine has advantages that include making it easier for the infant to breathe, increasing lung capacity, and reduces biotrauma.

In the article it talks about how one of the hardest organs to transplant is the liver: there aren't a lot of donors, the liver can be damaged in cold storage, and malfunctioning bile ducts, a common reason for transplantation, can come back even in the new liver. However, they have found out how to create bile duct "mini organs" that can repair and even better a liver. These can be inserted into damaged livers ready for transplantation and may even be able to heal a liver that is inside someone. They were able to create these "organoids" by first, using RNA sequencing to study the biliary tree cells and noticed that gallbladder cells were not damaged by bile duct disease and could take those out and grow the organoids, which were then inserted into the liver so that they could repair the bile ducts. This was the first time that these kinds of procedures were done on human organs and hopefully they can start using it in clinics soon.

Organ transplants can be a very long process for many. Some wait 1 year and some wait more than 5 years for a suitable match for a transplant. However in the the near future, this may not be an issue since researchers have been able to successfully 3D-print organs. These 3D-printed organs are able to mimic real organs but, it has not yet been confirmed whether they will work and function the same as a real organ. Besides this, the use of stem cells and the artificial organs can change the lives of many patients who have long awaited an organ transplant or repair. Therefore, this new innovation of artificial organs would help with the organ donor shortages and save many lives.

Summary; Laparoscopic surgery is the new way technology is used during surgery. The way it´s used is by diagnosing a wide range of conditions that develop in the abdomen or pelvis. It can also carry out damaged tissue for further testing and damaged or diseased organs. The benefits of this surgery are less pain, shorter hospital time, fewer complications, shorter recovery time, and smaller surgery scars. It was invented in the 1980s but was perfected in the 21st century and began to be used by doctors across the world.

The main idea of this article is personalized medicine has a rather broad term, but ultimately, we're discussing how to use genetics or some other biomarker knowledge to guide treatment recommendations for individuals. These judgments might include who should receive certain types of medicines or certain dosages of a given therapy, or who should be followed more closely because they are prone to a specific safety concern. Bioinformatics, pharmacogenetics, personalized medicine, and pharmacogenomics are all names that have been used to describe the investigation of gene mutations and their impact on how people react to pharmaceuticals.

In general, personalized medicine has two components. The therapeutic intervention (drug, biologic, or other) comes first, followed by the diagnostic test. They are to create multi-center policies on personalized medicine including the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, and other FDA departments, in addition to CDER's rules. From roughly 2008 to 2011, it was difficult to organize such connections, in my opinion, primarily because the centres weren't really nearby to one other.
