Our group's discussion has proven to be very fruitful with the different topics presented by each of our groupmates. However different they may be from one another, the purpose behind each of our projects was our common ground: we all wanted to provide a lasting, positive impact to our chosen communities. Applying our group's chosen to the mechanics of the circular business model allowed us to probe deeper into the project itself, and raise highly important and interesting questions. Overall, each of our members benefited from this discussion through seeing from each others' perspectives, and having a new model to apply our projects.

Issues that our projects wish to tackle:

Improper waste management leading to unsustainable lifestyles

Sexual Harassment

Water pollution, sanitation, sufficiency

Lack of job employment

The common factor that stood out upon the discussion of our respective projects is that all of us are aiming to create a sustainable product, centered around tackling a prevalent issue in our communities. With our world becoming more unsustainable, such innovative solutions are vital to raise awareness about becoming a responsible citizen. Although our projects address different problems, we consider its effects on the community and the environment. The circular canvas provides a fresh perspective on conducting a business that values sustainability, which can revamp how we perceive our economy.

It relates to the concept of circular business model plan since it will be the basis of the project (objectives, ideals, etc.) and make it into a whole product/app/project. Moreover, it makes the product more environmentally friendly and also the consumers and business owners. It also prepares a business so that it can be ready for implementation so there can be assurance that there will always be a backup for every plan. Take the issue on safety and security as an example, wherein we ensure to make a project that would help the residents to be safe in their cities. Even though, making a safety plan would be difficult, trial and error would help us to make a backup.

Team 5: The solutions of our respective group focuses mainly on two things: sustainability and technological advancements. Some of the projects are about safety of the residents and we all know that there are persons in authority that carry out the task of protecting the people. However, it also has its shortcomings. Their groups focused on improving the system of safety in their local communities. They used existing technology and they put their own innovations to make the project unique and solve the problem of the community. Moreover, there are also some projects that aim to enchance the quality of life of the people who are living in the rural areas of the Philippines. One example is the project of my group, PureWater which is a water filter combined with a steamer which will help remote areas get access to clean, potable water. This product encourages sustainability since it will use natural materials like fruit pectin from the peels of citrus fruits and coconut shells which are very abundant in the Philippines that is frequently discarded. This project can help reduce waste since it will give these items a new purpose.

Our group discussed our different projects and problems regarding them. The team mostly has apps that serve as help for the medical and employment community. We discussed the app which gives info about the COVID-19 entertainingly and easily. People can get misinformation from fake news circling on the net and complex explanations found on some websites can even make understanding of the disease more confusing. Therefore we all saw the positive impact of this app and suggested other characteristics that the app may use such as tackling other diseases other than COVID-19. All of our projects aim for a more sustainable world. Wherein we aim to implement a business focusing on the value of the product and its service to the community and the people.

Based on the group’s brainstorming, they have discussed several issues that their projects tend to address, and these issues revolve around the following:

waste management

clean water and sanitation, and

environmental safety and awareness.

After this discussion, the group also shared some ideas on how did they plan to tackle the said issues. To solve the issue of waste management, one member opted to initiate an idea in creating a machine that will compile similar garbage materials for the purpose of creating a new product. Another member opted to solve this issue through coordinating with the Local Government Unit (LGU) to collect garbage from all of the stores in the chosen barangay so that the residents, with the help of the series of webinars that his group will provide, can transform them into tangible products that are worthy of selling in the community-wide fair. Meanwhile, to solve the issue related to clean water and sanitation, one member thought of creating a water filtration system that is portable, made from natural materials like bamboo (structure) and stones (filtration), and includes a water turbine that would store small energy for portable appliances like radios and the like. To solve the issue related to environmental safety and awareness, on the other hand, one member proposed an application idea which aims to provide information regarding volcanic awareness and safety for barangays and cities near volcanoes by giving tips and guides on how to maintain safety.

All of these mentioned ideas aim to create sustainable projects that can be re-used and re-tweaked by multiple generations to solve the mentioned issues. Given their potential to be groundbreaking solutions when implemented, the members can use the circular business model in carefully mapping out every aspect that they need to identify and consider so that by the end of the day, their simple ideas are now transformed to life to start the change that their target customers, if not all people, wants and longs to see.
