Célyan and Colin

For this summer holidays, Célyan and I decided to go to America, more precisely in Louisiana, New Orleans. We first took the plane from France to Louis Armstrong airport on the last week of January. We then took the tramway to our hotel in the French quarter. We then decided to do “a must” according to some friends who were already here: go to Bourbon Street in the evening! And man was it a good advice! There was music (mostly jazz), we almost got drunk at the bars, danced with everyone else to the beat of the music… That was surely one of the best travel memories we ever had! Next morning, we decided to take a café au lait at “The Big Easy” in Jackson Square. Best. Coffee. Ever. Since Célyan loves everything music related, we visited the Old U.S. Mint. We learned a lot about jazz there and even had the opportunity to play music with a trumpet from the golden age of jazz. Now to satisfy Colin, we also went to the Civil war museum. It was an historian who did the visit with us and for Colin it was a blast (but not really for Célyan who quickly felt bored lol). Finally, when the sun was at dawn, we went to Lafayette Cemetery, known as the most haunted cemetery of the US. The goal for us here was to be the last one to not be scared! It ended on a tie (nothing could scare us, and there wasn’t any ghost). Last day we woke up late, so on the afternoon we went to Audubon Park, to see the zoo, most precisely the alligator! We even had the opportunity to watch the alligator feeding, which was impressive! And for our final evening in New Orleans, we experienced the Mardi Gras celebrations. We ate Gumbo (quite a special taste, but sooooo good!) and watch the parade, before going to a ball of course! We danced all the night (with girls also, you see what we mean…) and were tired the next morning to take the plane. That was our trip to New Orleans !

We had the chance to visit New Orleans which is a city full of traditions from the different cultures of the different peoples who lived there. We can start by talking about the Voodoo tradition, indeed we visited a museum on the voodoo, we learned that this tradition came with the slaves and that they merged their religious rituals and their religions with those of the local Catholic population, this appeared in the 17th century after the Haitian revolution. Then we can talk about the culinary traditions of New Orleans: indeed we ate at each meal in a different restaurant and still typical of the new orlean, There are many local specialties that are found only there-Stockings and really worth tasting. We can also talk about American football and sport in general in New Orleans we attended a match of a very old team that dates back to 1957, and which has a great success. We also watched a basketball game.
We were lucky to be able to attend Mardi Gras, a typical New Orleans tradition that is a party with a lot of family activities at night especially, everyone is disguised and it’s very pretty to see and we had a lot of fun, I really advise to participate!
Finally, I would like to tell you about the music we have heard all over the streets of the new orlean, mainly jazz, a very old style of music that has influenced the Blouse. These songs we heard throughout one of the second line parades.
In conclusion we very much enjoyed this stay because there are many things to do and see and we would love to go back to relive it!
