      <description>Former University of California Santa Barbara assistant professor --and later tenured associate professor- Danielle Kurin, PhD, graduated magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College. During her undergrad studies, Danielle Kurin earned several accolades for her research work, including the Frederica De Laguna Award. She went on to complete masters and doctorate programs in anthropology at Vanderbilt University, where she received awards for excellence in graduate assistant teaching and research. Her dissertation focused on the bioarchaeological analysis ethnogenesis and ethnocide in the Andes region of Peru. In her archaeological investigations, she discovered skulls demonstrating trepanation and ancient experimental techniques in brain surgery. Danielle Kurin taught at the University of California Santa Barbara department of anthropology from 2013 to 2022. She was a member of the archaeological wing but cooperates closely with colleagues in integrative anthropological sciences and Latin American studies. In addition to fieldwork focused in Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador, she has also been active in numerous professional organizations.. She founded a community museum in Andahuaylas, led the founding of a regional research collaborative, and participated in bioarchaeological work at the major prehistorical site of Wari in Peru. She is a leading expert in the field of pre-Colombian society using human remains as evidence of warfare, living conditions and migration. As an expert in forensics, she has served as an expert consultant for the US and Peruvian governments.</description>
