In my experience with Virtual Learning Environments, I find this learning mode is more beneficial than the traditional face-to-face style of teaching. Having the ability to access my assignments online makes it easier for me to build skills in time management and organization. Of course, there are a few setbacks as an art major. Much of my learning needs hands-on instruction.
Why would a student loaf around during group activities?
A student may loaf around during class because they find it easier to let their group members do all the work for them. Other reasons might be that another group member assert themselves as the group leader and take control of the assignment rather than working with their classmates.

I usually have busy schedules and virtual learning has helped me with time management and to get to know more about technology. I feel like I am not being watched or judged a lot of the time. I feel more confident to participate as well and to give my opinions. As an educator for elementary level it was very difficult. Younger kids need more hands on activities to keep their attention going and to keep them learning. It was very difficult to do so through a computer since they could play games or get easily distracted. You don't really know what is going on in their end unless they let you know. It was interesting to say the least as you don’t have the face to face connection as you would have in person but it still offers a great way of learning and an alternate opportunity to take courses.

So, I was able to familiarize myself the most with blackboard and panopto throughout the pandemic. I found that I actually really enjoy learning virtually and now opt to get classes online. For the second question, there are a multiple of different behaviors that can intervene in a group project. But for the most part, talking can usually get out of hand when students are separated into groups. Not that it is bad thing but maybe they would not feel included or maybe the class in general could feel like it is lacking this crucial part of participation. Virtual learning hasn’t always been the best. I feel as if many students don’t get as involved during virtual learning and it’s difficult for teachers to encourage involvement during the class time. There have been many good experiences that I’ve had such as all of us connecting over a book series or doing group work. I still prefer in person class so that I am forced to pay attention and not be distracted, which sadly for me is very easy. As for group work I believe it’s very easy for students to just sit by and let someone else do the work unfortunately. Some students believe that as long as a presentation is presented with their name on it they will get a grade. As mentioned it’s better to have assigned roles so that it makes it more difficult for a student to slack off and expect a good grade. I have taken coding classes before and there are times that I have to help my friends with codes about things. Also having classes online has been really helpful for me since as a music major I have to divide my time with practicing. Virtual learning has been some of the best things I could use to be able to practice more.

I think for a kid to loaf around it might be for different reasons. The student may not understand the topic and may have difficulties with the activities. We’ve uses zoom and asynchronous classes for virtual learning. I think that sometimes it’s good as it offers ways for students who may need it and they can really benefit from it, like those who need to travel for classes. I’ve had many positive experiences! It isn’t always good, as I used to assist a teacher in her virtual teaching and we would see that students weren’t as easy to communicate with, not everyone would pay attention and connection issues were common.

Some students learn better by speaking to their peers and professors in person. Virtual is more convenient for students and teachers who have children, full time jobs, or other daily life activities that make it difficult to fit non-virtual classes into their schedule. Therefore, I would say it differs for everyone depending on their situation. When it comes to virtual for younger students, I think it is more difficult most of the time because they lack the skills for time management.

During group activities, it is important to keep students engaged without allowing them to get too rowdy or off-topic. There should be structure to a certain extent. If group activities are made to be broken up to a certain amount of students, where everyone can have a voice and be heard. Another thing is making sure that students don't get distracted. This semester has been the first time I actually experience a class where I am able to keep up and follow along well, Im actually taking 3 online classes, and have no complains about any of my classes . But I guess it depends on what kind of class works well with a virtual learning environment. 
A student might loaf with the amount of students in a group or if they feel that others in the group are not giving them an opportunity and they fall behind while trying to do some work.

I think that many students can get distracted because sometimes they don't feel comfortable with the group but if they start to get distracted it is because they are not interested in being part of the group and don't want to help.  They must have a motivation and above all they must feel part of the team if one of the group makes the person feel bad they will not be able to do the job because it does not feel good. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I finished up my junior year of high school and completed my entire senior year online. At first it was asynchronous, but when I started learning through zoom,  it was a bit better. However, I feel like nothing compares to learning in person because it helps me focus. 
As far as loafing in group assignments, I noticed that when I would be paired with a peers who were struggling in a class I was excelling in, they would prefer for me to do most of the work. My experience in taking virtual classes, at first it was difficult because I was not used to being in zoom meetings. When Covid-19 happened, I was at HS and everything went virtual overnight. It was a huge shock for me and I had difficulty paying attention to the teacher because I would get distracted because the TV in the living room was on or my family interrupted me during class hours. Over time I got used to virtual classes, I learned to pay my full attention and be in places where I wouldn't be distracted.

The student loafs during group activities because they do not feel motivated or are not completely interested in the subject they are going to work on and get distracted for that reason.

I enjoy being able to do the classwork at my own pace and it does not interfere with work. I can work on it during the day or at night after work, and it does not become as stressful. The most impactful experiences with Virtual Learning was in my senior year of high school and in college. In high school, Zoom quickly became the mode for most teachers to use. The assignments and assessments were much easier to handle because schools were barely growing accustomed to the online environment. This also created some confusion early on as the pandemic began. In college, however, the virtual learning environment was more rigorous. There was a lot expectations to meet, and given my experience in high school, I was not prepared for the workload and the responsibilities in college. While I did manage my time and became more organized as a result, there were times were it became quite lonely and monotonous.

Why would a student loaf around during group activities?
There are multiple factors that play a role. A student can have distractions such as their phone and social media that make them participate less in group activities. Some students may have other responsibilities such as a job or a family that may lead to less involvement in group activities. There are also others who are not comfortable in group settings, and as such tend to step away from the group.
