I grew up visiting family-friends in Boone and loved this place from the start. I knew that I felt the most like myself in this community, which ultimately led to my decision to go to school at App State. Boone is located on the land of the Cherokee, Moneton, and Yuchi peoples.

My grandparents used to own a house on Lake Norman where the entire extended family on my mom's side would meet several times every year. I have so many happy memories of playing with my cousins at that house. Denver/Lake Norman is located on the land of the Sugaree, Cheraw, Catawba, and Keyauwee peoples.
