  • Many patients are scared and in pain, and as a nurse it is your job to be there for them and help them through the emotional and physical distress they may be experiencing.  
  • Family members may also be scared or worried for a loved one and it is our job to listen to them and reassure them as well. 
  • Some patients may be dealing with a new issue or diagnosis, so be patient and understanding if they have difficulty adjusting to what may be their new normal.

  • Be open to learning new things 
    • Nurses can learn from patients just as patients can learn from nurses.
  • It is extremely important for all nurses to identify and eliminate any prejudices, stereotypes, or bias they may have .
  • All patients should receive the same care as any other patient regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or religious beliefs.
  • Make an effort to educate yourself about a patient's culture or religion - it will show the patient you value their beliefs.
