Many of my patients that need CT scans are connected to multiple necessary machines or devices that are life sustaining including ventilators, intravenous medications with pumps, wound vacs, arterial lines, extra-ventricular devices, and feeding pumps, just to name a few. These numerous devices can be very cumbersome, difficult, and unsafe to travel with. In addition to these items, the patient is oftentimes unstable and simply risky to travel out of the ICU with, away from life-saving equipment and trained staff. Too, multiple staff are often needed when traveling with these patients which takes them away from other critically ill patients who also need them. In the last several years, a solution has been introduced to these issues: a portable CT scanner. While there are numerous benefits as well as some risks to this current innovation, the portable CT scanner has opened wide doors of possibility to more convenient, timely, innovative, and safer medical practice.

4) Less exposure to other hospital employees or patients due to transporting patients in isolation to fixed CT scan. 
5) Possibility to utilize intraoperatively to assist in surgeon decision-making and assist intraoperative diagnosis. 
6) More timely and immediate results can lead to quicker decision making by medical staff which can lead to improved patient outcomes.
7) CT scan made possible for patients on continuous therapies such as ECMO or CRRT which prevent transportation. 
8) Several brands available that are FDA approved; some full-body capability and some head-only capability.
