How Mobiles Games Impact in Filipino’s daily live’s and Academic Performance

Gaming application have become one of the main entertainment features on smartphone, and this could be potential problematic in terms of dangerous, prohibited, and dependent use among a minority of individuals.

This study was conducted to assess and find out the impact of online gaming on the academic performance and social behaviour of a Filipino youth. Furthermore, this study search answers on the significant relationship between playing online games and academic performance and to social behaviour of a young Filipino. The study revealed that boys are more of a player compared to girls who often play games that require three or more players like Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLLBB), Player Unknown Battle Ground (PUBG), Clash of Clans (COC), Call of Duty mobile (CoD), and many more to mention. It is stated that those who play mobile games are around 15-18 years old who are believed to be a teenagers. These Filipino youth who often play mobile games have an average 36 hours weekly level. Playing mobile games do not affect their academic performance for they know how to limit themselves. They know that they need control themselves in order to function well in other activities. But most of the time, it can’t control their limit playing in exact time. On the flip side, playing mobile games too often for more than several hours per day can negatively impact one’s overall health and livelihood, and lead to problems with finances, education, social relationships, and other more functions in the society. Mobile game addiction is increasingly on the rise in the Philippines, especially since mobile devices can be easily acquired and have made it easy for users to access thousands of games with just a few taps.

Playing Mobile games is one of the most used leisure activities by many people especially the students. For some people it is said that playing mobile games has a number of reasons to be played, for it can be social interaction, stress reliever and even mentally escaping from the real world. They do not just play because they are bored but also because they just want to feel relief about real-world problems. After school hours, students tend to play online games so that they will feel relieve of stress. Students' learning takes place unexpectedly.

Some positive effects that Filipino youth can gain from playing mobile games that some researchers found, that there are some positive effects in playing mobile games. These are some of the effects that can be gained in playing mobile games; multi tasking, quick thinking and it also improves memory.

Multitasking is one important skill that will be used in real life situations. It can increase productivity in both the workplace and at home. As earlier said, people who multitask in their workplace cant finish more tasks given faster in a better rate. In playing strategy games, for instance, while developing a city in CoC, an unexpected surprise like an enemy might emerge. This forces the player to be flexible and quickly change tactics.

Quick thinking is the ability to think rapidly, furthermore, this is a skill that is in very high demand in the business world which is inline with our course. Once you have learned to master it, your sharp and relevant responses will immediately instil confidence in what you are saying. Sometimes the player does this almost every second of the game giving the brain a real workout. An example of this are games simulating stressful events such as those found in battle or action games could be a training tool for real-world situations.games simulating stressful events such as those found in battle or action games could be a training tool for real-world situations.

A better memory is important, for we gain a ton of informations in our daily activity. Playing first person shooter games such as Call of Duty and PUBG series enables the player to effectively judge what information should be stored in his working memory and what can be discarded considering the things that are task at hand.

What maybe the result of excessive of playing mobile games to us Filipino youth in terms in academic, social behaviour, and livelihood?; As this platform becomes more popular, some researchers are beginning to notice potential problems and dangerous behaviours associated with this type of mobile gaming that has never been observed with any other type of gaming.

The first negative effect of mobile gaming in Filipino youth is loss of productivity distractions. Many mobile games have a social aspect, or rely on other players taking turns or participating in the game. In games like this, it’s common to have alerts and updates throughout the day about various thing happening in different games. It’s also very tempting to take several minutes and quickly check on a game, or make a quick move .Resulting in many wasted hours of productivity.

Out of control spending their money. Many Filipino’s willing to spend their money just to operate in mobile games “free to premium” business model, where the basic games is free, but extras within the games cost money. In other games like Mobile Legends and Call of Duty, you use to spend money for the diamonds to avail any skins of your favourite character in your account. Some Filipino players have found themselves spending large sums of money while playing games, in an out of control fashion. These types of games are potentially very risk to for distraction when you are addicting in playing games and have to spend many money just for benefits for it.

Contrary to the traditional belief that gaming is merely an addictive source of entertainment and diversion, recent research has proved that gaming has numerous benefits and key among them, is the development of cognitive skills in both children and adults. The followings are some of the cognitive benefits of playing mobiles games and other video games.

Improves coordination when an adult or child is playing a video game, he or she is not only staring direct at phone inactively. The activities and actions on the screen provide a lot of mental stimulation.

Improves attention and concentration video games especially action games, have proven to be able to capture the players attention for the entire objectivities within the game, and be able to progress to the next level.

In short we can say that there are also some good benefits that you can get from playing in mobile games. Unless you play in eSports or do gaming videos full-time on youtube, you will not produce anything while playing video games. You can still learn and find a meaning in them but face it, the goal here is to relax and be entertained.Once we frame mobile gaming as something non-productive, it’s easier to consciously decide if you should be playing mobile games. The lack of motivation and potential work obstacles can trigger the mobile or video game habit and before you know it a whole day passed without any real achievements. Activities like gaming need to be seen as necessary moments. We need a moment where we don’t think about our problems and escape the real world. For other people that means watching TV, reading a book or going to a gym, but for us it’s mobile games. It’s just like cheat day during a diet. A day of eating whatever your heart desires will serve to lower any cravings for a period of time. These are the activities that we need to put in a minimum. We should carefully watch if how long should we spend time on this such activities. You want to spend the whole day playing Mobile Legends? But maybe you also want to be successful one day? Well, you need to pick the most important and then reward yourself with some “savage” and “legendary”(terms in Mobile Legends). The point is, playing mobile games should be served as a reward. So that the Filipino youth will not only be motivated by the allowance that their parents give to them for them to study and do well in their class, but also a reward to escape from reality.

References;

https:www.pinoygaming.net

https:www.bartleby.com

https:www.knepubplishing.com

https:www.forbes.com

https:www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.com

https:www.dragonblogger.com
