I learned the importance of intentionally honoring and including culture in math lessons. Sometimes its easy to forget being mindful that some kids need to see themselves, and deserve to see themselves in the math curriculum, verbiage, activities, etc.

This article truly embodies what it means to approach learning and teaching through an IB lens. Best practices shared in the article directly connect with the considerations PYP teachers are called to consider and employ to create the conditions that allow all students to learn. One example is to communicate with students in structured and unstructured conversations and talking with parents to make students the center of of learning to increase student engagement.

Loved the idea of presenting a math problem as a text message exchange-- truly an opportunity to represent different voices in the lesson. We really need to be aware of the context of application problems and make sure that the verbiage, situation, and activities represent our students.
