Then I had to bus to May Whitney for junior high. After the tornado hit our neighbors, and we had no protection, my parents moved us to a nice two story on Main Street WITH A BASEMENT. The bonus was I was able to walk to school again because I was just east of the tracks. When open campus became legal, I was able to go home and watch soap operas and eat lunch during study hall backed up to lunch hour. Loved watching basketball tournaments and football games. My parents (Krueger-Grant) took class in the building when it was Lake Zurich Junior High. My brother and I (Grant) attended Middle School North. In November, my 2 year old and 7 month old toured the building as the fourth generation to walk in those halls. Everyone was nice and welcoming. I coached Girls on the Run for them and got to meet many teachers and parents. Some of her classmates were Phoebe Burnett, Elmer Dobner and Irvin Christensen. My grandfather Deinlein was a janitor there in 1955 until the early 60's. When I started high school there in 1969, they were building our new current high school. When it came time to move the library to the new school, they filed all of us in buses with our arms full of books, then we filed out in the same order to the new school, marched in the school, and put the books on the shelves!
