This woman's name was Helga Weisis. Helga was a Jewish survivor from WW11. It was 1944 when she got moved to the Ashulatz camp at seven years old.

She was separated from her father right away in the camp but stayed with her mother until the summer of 1942. She then was deported to the ashultes camp where she lied to survive. Her family connected again and got sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp. When they arrived the gas chambers had been destroyed one day before they arrived. Her uncle had her diary which gave a lot of information once he found her again he returned it to her. She ended up giving it to a museum.

This helped all of us by gaining more knowledge about what happened in these camps and also about what these people have been through. This helped Helga keep her and her family safe thanks to Germany.

"There will be a time when there are no living witnesses, but here I am now but not forever”. Meaning we are gaining information but once there are no witnesses left we have to belive that when she is here use her for information.

Helga painted this at the age of 13. She was trying to get at the fact that there were some people who were fine. But others were not.

Helga's point in this painting was trying to resemble on how there were people dead every day,almost every minute. But children dead was more rare then adults and you knew when a child died

To this day Helga is still alive. Helga is currently 94 years old. Her diary paintings and drawings were published in 2013. She was born in 1929. And to this day is healthy and strong.

Family and survivor information

Helga Weiss was born in Prague in 1929. Her father Otto was employed in the state bank in Prague and her mother Irena was a dressmaker. Of the 15,000 children brought to Terezín and later deported to Auschwitz, only 100 survived the Holocaust. Helga was one of them. She has two children, three grandchildren and lives to this day where she was born.

Helga's art was greatly encouraged by her father Otto Weiss. After receiving a picture of children in snow. He urged his daughter to "draw what you see". Her diary as she began to illustrate everyday life in the camp. Her art would prove a little bit of understanding the would she was living in.
