Period 9: Let's Plan a Zoo: the cost of decisions by Jason Costello

Consider the following questions and then formulate a short response to two to three of the questions (definitely want to respond to #4): Did every animal make it into your zoo? If not, explain why some were included and others were not.
Did you add another animal to your zoo?
Would you want to have a zoo with just one animal (multiple enclosures)?
What was the last animal in and out of your zoo? Why? What was the determining factor of inclusion or exclusion?
Now think, what is the point of this activity? It is not to dream about owning a zoo, there is a economic concept to analyze.

Not every animal made it into our zoo. We chose to add in some restaurants/gift shops, and double the monkey enclosure (the enclosure is small and monkeys are a popular exhibit) to get more attention and money.

(Question 4) The last animal we included was the penguins, which we left out our idea of tiger and kangaroo for. We figured penguins would be a popular attraction that could help draw revenue over tigers and kangaroos. We also have lions and cheetahs which are fairly similar to tigers, while the birds in the bird house are usually smaller and can fly, so the diversity benefits their crowd attention.

No not all animals made it into the zoo because we had to make some affirmative decisions based on the limited amount of land that we had. The last animal to make it into our zoo was the penguin because we wanted to add a little more diversity among the animals. I think the general point of this activity is to practice and understand the basis of economics by making some executive decisions in a simple situation.

No, some animals had to be left out of our group's zoo. We had to make cuts based on the acreage their habitats took up, their appeal to potential visitors, and the amount of maintenance they needed. We definitely did want to add more animals to our zoo if possible. The last animal to make the cut was the kangaroo, and the first to get cut was the elephant. This decision was solely based on the acreage of their exhibit. This activity shows how certain resources take priority or are more important than others.

We left out these animals since we had a minimum of 20 acres and using the animals we did allowed a perfect fit for all 20. No we did not add any animals to our zoo. No I would not want to have a zoo with one animal since it wouldn't be as captivating for people. The last animal in was the kangaroo since it is only 1 acre and we had left over room for it. The last animal out was the giraffe since it took up to much space. The point of this was to show how you have to think when doing projects as this and what factors are and are not as important.

The last animal that we excluded was the hippo because it would take up a lot of acreage and would require much more maintenance than the rest of the animals we included. the determining factor was the amount of top acreage they took up and the amount of maintenance required in the future to take care of them.

1- No not every animal made it, mainly because that is impossible with the space had. most animals we cut were due to taking up too much space while only being for a single animal that could have less appeal than two or more animals in the same space. so the cuts were made in order to maximize amount of good animals in our zoo.

4- The last animal in our zoo was the giraffe and the first one out was the hippo. this is mainly because we had an uneven amount of space left so only using 2 spaces instead of three would be a waste of space and due to already having the aquarium we felt it was not needed to have another semi aquatic animal. also giraffes can come with more appeal as they are extremely friendly towards humans some zoos even allowed patriots to feed them Which will attract more people.
