A recent change in my life was the decision to buy a house. There are several risks involved, a few of them are:

The home could have hidden problems that were overlooked or not visible to the inspector. This could be a huge problem later.

There is a risk of repair costs that may surprise a home owner.

The market could crash, reducing the value of the house and property.

Reduced flexibility- we can not just give a months notice to a landlord if we want to move- we must either rent out the house or sell it. There is no guarantee that either of those options will happen in a timely manner.

Job Loss- if we are unable to pay the mortgage we are in trouble!

Thankfully so far the house seems stable and the pros outweigh the cons, but sometimes I still worry about the unknown....

I would echo a change in jobs. It is a big unknown entering into a now job, even if it is the same field.
Some of the risks would be leaving what is known and going into what isn't so certain. New Co-workers, new tasks, new office environment etc.
I think the best way to combat these risks is research :)

We have decided to buy another home or at least look at it. It will give us a huge mortage as we want to do this wither out selling our current home. This is a big change as we would have 40 minutes travel to work and school so there is a cost for petrol so another expense.

Resigning from a long term career in order to study and begin a new one.
The risks for me were: the risk of not being able to provide for my children and service the household expenses while I'm not working. So the dilemma I faced was whether to continue working in a position that I wasn't so passionate about anymore so we could remain financially comfortable, or to take a leap of faith and work towards living a life that I can be passionate about. I made the necessary sacrifices and I am studying and although our budget is a little more limited, we are still comfortable and I'm excited about the future.

I have recently purchased my first home and it is out of town. Unfortunetly this means commuting to and from town every day for 40 mins each way. Also it is a home that requires a lot of maintence and renovations some of which I didn’t know when purchasing. The risks that came with purchasing the house were the hidden problems I wasn’t notified of
