I did the white first. Then I did the black and just was eyeballing it. Seeing if I can figure out the 5 different values by myself. I found this to not be a good way of doing it.

Wow. That was tough. I didn’t think it was gonna be, but I definitely should have outlined the different values. I also wish I found my tape and taped the sides for crispy edges. I’m not much of a painter and so the act of painting is still so foreign and there is such thing as good brushes and I do not have those lol. I did this whole thing with the tiniest paint brush. I didn’t realize breaking values up would be as difficult as it is but it is so important to comprehend this so I look forward to learning from my mistakes here and applying it to do better on my final.

So I outlined the different values this time and that helped wonders!! I am pleased with this and am happy with how “painterly” I feel it looks. I enjoyed doing this very much. I used ultramarine blue which I regretted because it wasn’t the right consistency to really give the coverage I was needing for the darker color. So I did a second coat and I will upload that as well

Crazy how when you do something and then you think it’s gonna be better but I actually liked it before the second coat now hahahhaha. I still love the painterly effect. I think I did a much better job on this and it was all because I outlined the values from the beginning and I went in order. I was afraid to do a wacky colored one but I might just do one for fun cuz I love doing multi color and plying with color schemes.

Colored Pitcher Cup and Bowl

I really enjoyed this project and learned a lot from this class. It’s one of the best art classes I’ve taken at community college. I now realize how important color, especially value, is in a painting or any design and how difficult it is to capture a painting accurately in a photograph. For instance, I can never quite capture the exact colors of my painting in this project. I guess I’ll be visiting museums more in the future to appreciate artists’ works on-site.

I used cadmium yellow, cadmium red, raw umber, ultamarine blue, and white to create

I chose to have my color palette be yellow, blue, and green. Of the primaries, yellow is the most luminous, while blue is the least, so I figured I’d use those colors for the highlights and shadows, respectively, and then the greens from them would be all the midtones.

I decided to go for an indigo, the shades getting progressively lighter. To be honest I didn’t have much time to think about it carefully. I had to keep mixing a lot of paint.

I chose indigo for the darkest coat. Then worked my way to a lighter color of purple. I had to keep mixing more indigo because I kept running out of paint for the later tints.
