When talking about psychology, one cannot just limit themselves to just the basic structures of the brain. The study of minds encompasses a variety of different topics, ranging from the various components of the brain, to the subjective experiences of the individual, to the importance of early experiences in shaping the unconsciousness and how those experiences affect our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and personalities. Since the founding of the first psychology lab at the University of Leipzig in Leipzig, Germany in the year 1879, many different schools of thought have been introduced. Those include but are not limited to structuralism, functionalism, and psychoanalysis. Structuralism being the first developed sought to take the scientific process used by chemists and physicists to study the brain. These early psychologists thought psychology was the study of the different components of the brain. My group believes that while this may be a part of psychology, this topic is not all encompassing. We believe that the study of psychology includes, but is not limited to, the different components of the brain, the various functions of each part of the brain, subjective experiences of the individual, and various other topics.
