In the article “U.S. Throws Away Half of all Food Produce” it tells about how food is wasted everyday for reasons like the food is not perfect or because it is left in the field to long and rots and is fed to cows or other animals, or is just hauled to the landfill and thrown away. In the article it says, “Imperfect Produce is a delivery service for “ugly” food in the San Francisco Bay Area. It estimates that one-fifth of all fruit and vegetables are thrown out because of flaws.” this just proves how much fruit is really thrown away for reasons like the fruit isn’t perfect. There are people around the world who are severely malnourished or who are starving and why, all because we can’t get over the fact that our fruit is a little bruised? Over one third of all food produce is wasted, that’s $160 billion worth of food! My UN 17 project is world hunger this relates to it because in the article it even states that it would be extremely difficult to help people going hungry without changing the way we just throw things away.

- One way to limit food waste would be to shop smart, when you go shopping you tend to buy more than you need, which in turn leads to you not eating all of it an it going to waste.
-Store food correctly, some foods don't go in the fridge such as, potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, cucumbers, and onions should never be refrigerated.
-Learn how to Preserve Foods Pickling, drying, Canning, Fermenting, Freezing and Curing are all ways that will make foods last longer and will limit food waste because the foods will last longer. This will not only limit food waste it will also make your carbon footprint smaller.

- You can't be a perfectionist when it comes to your foods, we all know that having the perfect apple is more appetizing than having a bruised apple that has an odd shape, but by being picky about how your food look also contributes to food waste. Some places like whole foods or walmart sell "ugly" fruit at a discount to try and limit food waste.
- Having a fridge that isn't full to the brim can also help to avoid food waste, because when you go to eat the stuff in front you can't see what's in the back and so when you go to clean out your fridge you will find a lot of wasted foods that you completely forgot about.

-Save leftovers, if you make to much food instead of throwing it away save it! You can reheat it the next day for lunch. Then it wont go to waste.
- Eat the skin on fruits and vegetables throwing away the skins wastes that part of the food.
- When eating an egg, eat the yolk don't just throw away the yolk it has a lot of nutrients that are very good for you.
- Be a seed saver by throwing away seeds you are throwing away new chances at food, when you eat one apple you either throw away or eat 5 apple seeds that is about 1500 seeds per growing season just for one tree! by throwing away the seeds you are killing food sources.
-Add things like fruits to your water to make it flavored and more tasty, people do not drink enough water this will help people to drink more water and it will also help to use fruits.

TDA on newsela "Ending World Hunger by Stopping Food Waste in the Fields."

In the article “Ending World Hunger by Stopping Food Waste in the Fields.” by, Bjorn Lomborg it informs readers about how food waste is a worldwide concern, about how it impacts world hunger, and how most of food waste occurs in the fields the food is grown in. The article says, ”More than three quarters of the waste occurs during inefficient agriculture, such as when birds and rats eat the crops.” this goes to prove how the food waste happens before the food even leaves the crop. This is a problem because this could lead to people trying to kill the animals, or using pesticides that could poison the people who eat the vegetables. It is also not good because with so much of the food being rotten or eaten before they get to stores it can't be sold meaning that they will only have a limited stock of fruits and/or vegetables. So some people won’t be able to eat them. In my project I am doing world hunger this ties to that because food waste is one of the leading factors in world hunger.

In the book “Empty” by Suzanne Weyn it tells about how the US is running out of oil completely and how when this happens the people have no way of being able to grow large crops due to not being able to run the tractors that would plow the fields, they also are not able to keep things from spoiling because of not having electricity for the fridge. In the book it says, “ I was just out here trying to find a place to dig a root cellar. What’s that Tom asked. A big hole in the ground for keeping food; it’s naturally cool so I won’t need refrigeration for things like potatoes, carrots, yams- root vegetables.” This quote taken from the novel goes to show how they have to do things to save their food or else they will go hungry, In the book there are a lot of people who are going hungry from things like no oil. To conclude this relates to the topic world hunger because in the book people were going hungry, fighting over food, and even stealing from places just to get food. Hunger is a worldwide conflict that can be caused by several things including oil loss.
