Therefore, I will reflect on my understanding of the course and apply the concepts I learned to develop two leadership goals for myself, and I will specify the actions taken to pursue the goals.

My first goal is to be an effective follower. Since a successful organization requires not only good leaders, but also effective followers. Effective followers can contribute to leaders in a variety of ways. Effective followers are able to work independently, and do not need the guidance of leaders all the time; effective followers try to develop their skills and work hard to achieve the best results; effective followers are independent and critical thinkers whose knowledge and evaluation are trustworthy.

Action Plan #1: Developing the ability to assist leaders

As Daft and Lane (2018) mentioned in the textbook, "followers can be a resource of strength and support for the leader" (p. 231). To be an effective follower, I need to develop the ability to help leaders succeed. If the leader needs to rely on more data to make a decision, I will collect more data for him; if the leader is not well prepared for the meeting, I will actively help him prepare the meeting materials; if the leader can't achieve the work for some reasons, I will try to assist him. In one word, effective followers use all their resources and try their best to better help leaders succeed.

Action Plan #2: Accepting the leader is not perfect

At the same time, effective followers should realistically accept the leaders as they are (Daft & Lane, 2018). First of all, I need to have a correct understanding of the leader itself, avoid blind trust and excessive fear of the leaders. Secondly, I have to accept the fact that the leaders will make mistakes. When the leader's decision is harmful to the organization, I should dare to oppose the actions and orders that are detrimental to the organization. In addition, for an autocratic leader, I will try to use my knowledge and practice, as well as appropriate communication methods to give advice.

My second goal is to become a people-oriented leader. Because I believe that good leaders are good at rallying people, respecting others, acknowledging others, motivating others, and being tolerant of others. People-oriented leadership is about respecting talent, which not only wins the respect of followers, but also guides and inspires their potential-- ultimately leads to unexpected returns.

Action Plan #1: Showing concerns for subordinates

As introduced in the textbook, people-oriented leaders are always concerned with the growth and progress of their followers and create the necessary help to showcase their talents (Daft & Lane, 2018). I can find time and subordinates to talk about life trivia, concerned about the life of subordinates, and then establish emotional connections with them. In addition, if I want to be a people-oriented leader I should give followers a sense of belonging by understanding their more needs. Caring for the subordinates, in order to make them feeling that they are being cared and being taken seriously. Let them see my sincerest concern and win their trust.

People-oriented leadership lies in motivation, which refers to the ability to motivate everyone to achieve a common goal. Therefore, I would prefer to use a guided approach to motivate subordinates. For example, I will always congratulate more than the criticize to the subordinates and encourage them to express their opinions on the leadership. Moreover, I will use the recognition and appreciation of subordinates as a spiritual incentive. The purpose is to inspire them to be self-motivated and to work hard for their own development and for the common good of all. Of course, in addition to spiritual incentives, material incentives are equal important. I will try my best to provide subordinates with more good platforms and opportunities to motivate them better performance.

Leadership is a process of lifelong learning. A good leader is also a good follower, and the two are complementary relationship. Leaders influence followers through the leadership process. Followers also influence leaders by following the process. They rely on each other and promote each other to form the progress and development of leadership activities.
