With this piece I strayed from my comfort zone and created a more organic, less detailed, and more textured painting. I made great use of my pallet knife and my large brushes, being less precise and more free with my brush strokes. Clocks shaped as cats are quite silly and fun objects, so I wished to reflect this and create a bright, lively piece using color and texture. 

In this piece I compare myself to the spiritual and figurative meanings of scorpions. In some cultures scorpions are believed the represent transformation and are seen as guardians of change. I wished to allude to my own transformation in this piece. I painted the scorpion in blue to contrast the warm colors of my skin. I added a black background to contrast my colorful skin as well. I wished to bring full attention to myself and the scorpion, connecting the two.

Acid rain created by pollution is a large problem in China and Russia, creating landslides and dying forests. This problem was the focus of my piece. The dull and dismal background demonstrates the outcome of the acid rain, while the bright, smiling girl in the forefront represents the ignorance towards the issue. The girl is meant to contrast the background and demonstrate that despite this issue many are continuing the live their lives in ignorance of it.

This piece is the first of my sustained investigation in which I concentrate on the question of how has fashion and appearance evolved throughout history along with context and setting?

The 1950s was the focus of this piece, particularly the high fashion of the era. The fashion was very elegant, simple, and beautiful, corresponding with the mood often associated with the time period. I demonstrated the elegance of this fashion era by painting the clothes black and giving the woman a classic red lip. The simple background alludes to the simplicity in the fashion.
