In my paper, I stated the following: "Although Mi did not speak very much English at all at first, she hired a tutor who taught her to put a great deal of words together to where now she can hold a conversation with another person who speaks English. Although she may sometimes become confused about a certain topic, she still is learning each and every day and is striving to do the best she possibly can. If there is anyone who knows about persevering in the face of adversity, it is Mi Sha." Not only are these students bilingual, they are bicultural. They develop empathy through awareness and respect for other cultures and customs." By being bilingual, these students are aware of other cultures and have a better understanding of the diverse world around them.
