This somewhat goes against the over style of my mood board and previous inspirations but I feel it conveys a sense of adventure and a portrait shot like this has a timeless effect that aligns with the vintage tagline. During post production editing, I chose to go with a black and white colour palate because I felt like it removed the distraction of colour and helped hone in on the texture and composition of the photograph. I also liked that it gave the photo an added element of depth and I feel like it helped to draw viewers to the eyes of the subject and instil an emotive feeling and make viewers wonder what was ‘going on inside the head of the subject’. I added grain and improved the texture of the photograph giving it a gritty and some what uncomfortable feel to it. I wanted it to represent adventure in pushing the boundaries of what is ‘liked’ and what is acceptable by societies standards 

 

The final version of the photo was heavily influenced by the style references I have listed above in the padlet, especially the photography of Martin Krystynek, who often captures subjects in a similar way and uses similar post production editing techniques. 

 

As with the self portrait photo, I wanted to create a sense of intrigue and depth for the viewer. The extreme close up and front on view creates a sense of intimacy between subject and viewer. The night sky map represents my love of adventure and the outdoors, I have experimented with night time photography before but didn’t have any images of good enough quality to use for this project, I think that would be a cool idea in the future though. 

I wanted this image to highlight that humans are one and the same with the physical word; trees and landscapes, oceans, planets, stars, the solar system.
