This is one of the examples of power over. In this 2021 news report is another "incident" of police violence. This cop used his power to murder an innocent citizen. This is a clear example of power over as the victim of defenseless while the cop had power. He used it against her and got his way. This is what power over does. I believe power over is where ever a there is an inferiority or perceived inferiority. If a person or group seems inferior to another, power over can occur. The "superior" believes he/she has power and asserts it, leading to power over. To me Power Over is the same as the common folk, it's easier to understand that way anyway. There are many instances to where Power Over is being used, whether it's the office, government, family, school, and the sort. There are hierarchies everywhere and with those hierarchies are those who are at the top of those very hierarchies who use that power of theirs for themselves. These can be either good or bad, it depends on the perspective. To make things a bit clearer, imagine a school with a korean-style setting. There is a hierarchy that exists and is either translucent or opaque to the teachers. This hierarchy holds those who abuses their high political power or anything of the sort on the top of the pyramid. Those in the middle that is just right at the bottom of these influential individuals are those who ignore and play the hypocritical role. While those at the bottom of this pyramid/food chain, there we see the poor victims, ridiculed for whatever hilarious reason why they are being abused, this applies to both teachers and students alike who got caught up in that miserably mess. Then there are the teachers outside the pyramid who play the silent role, for they too may be threatened by those siding with the lions. This is one thing of how I see Power Over being used.

For me, "Power Over" is controlling or having authority on something. When you use it in a sentence it will be more like this: "I have power over the states and nations." Power over means to be in authority but often people abuses this power that they have. It's not bad to have power but it how we execute it that makes it not good. If we will abuse it, then we shouldn't have that power in the first place. To have "power over" something is a responsibility that we must take care of. Power Over is manipulation. It is using the fear and naivety of those who are lower than you in the class hierarchy to your advantage. It is knowing that whatever you say will always go because the people around you feel too unsafe to even try and speak their mind on how they feel about you. Power Over is most prevalent in the government, as they are the ones with the responsibility of managing their country. To me, Power Over is when an individual has control or “Power Over” someone else. It is evident that one has authority and great power over the other. It’s not necessarily a bad thing though if abused, it’s a completely different story. Usually, examples of Power Over are parents to their children, bosses to their workers, and mentors to their students. Power is neither good nor bad, it's only on how we use it. If we take advantage, Power Over to me is a person who is greedy, taking every opportunity to be in control, manipulating the rest to follow suit. Power Over is the ability to take over a person's intentions and force them to do what you want. It is the ability to gain benefits from others but prevent them from gaining benefits for themselves. In countries with conflict, I have seen through social media the abuses, discrimination, and violence they had to face. While it sounds very negative, "power over" doesn't necessarily imply negative means. An everyday example of power over is when parents watch over their children. Another could even be a teacher with their own students. To "power over" can mean to guide someone: to instruct a person with the right things to do, or to correct them when they've done something wrong. To me, Power Over is the power created by your position or title being higher than the others.

In our country, we often see Power Over being used by authorities or political figures. Power Over is when someone volunteers to take initiative on a certain task, role or duty. Typically Power Over could be used for either Good (which actually benefits) or Bad (a.k.a Corruption). For me, the definition of Power Over is when a certain individual with high power or "rankings" has the ability to tell others what to do. This could either be done in a good manner or a bad manner. My opinion on power over is similar to what I have learned in this module. Power over is when someone uses their advantages, skills, knowledge, etc. for self interest. The people who practice this are the ones who desire to put others down to get higher up. A common example this is when a person uses their resources to manipulate others so that they can get what they want, or when they use their power to threaten people below them.

Power shouldn't be used to hurt, it should be used to help and support others. It should be used to pull others up, not push them down.
