At a young age we are taught that there are only 2 genders, male and female these are the genders your assigned at birth and "have" to stick with for life. We also learned that there are specific norms to each gender, pink color is for girls and blue is for boys. Males are supposed to be masculine while women are supposed to be feminine. As Fuentes said that gender and sex are man made they were socially constructed to create difference. We don't need to follow the stereotypical norms, they can be swapped, men can wear pink and cry and women can wear blue and become strong. Just because we were born one way does not mean we have to follow through with society plan, its 2023 we can break those norms.

Some countries have try to be more open up with gender norms being swapped. For example it is common for Korean men to wear makeup in Korea but in the US it seen as gay till this day, kpop men get hate for it but when Harry Styles showed up with wearing makeup and a dress or skirt everyone praising him for doing something different. But when Korean man do it, it a whole controversial. When you're in the Kpop community it's normal seeing idols wear different clothing, men wear skirts and crop tops even boots with high heels! Women are wearing more tux clothing and they are also breaking norms by ripping their shirts at concerts like men idols do. Korea is known to be a homophobic place still but they are slowly being more accepted. In the Combahee article it was mentioned that if white people were in black people's shoes they would understand their life. Same thing goes with heterosexual people being in a homosexual shoes to see how badly they are treated. Kpop has evolved to show those that gender rules do not apply in clothing and makeup, which is why I'm proud to be a kpop fan because I'm not judging.

Butch and feminine look is a great way to represent the gender roles in women clothing. Females are "suppose" to dress up very feminine, wearing dresses, skirts, heels, long hair and wearing makeup. But the category butch femme became known in the 1940's by lesbian women. It's more and more seen now, short hair, minimal makeup, "men" tank tops, more stern attitude. They're known as the "man" in the lesbian relationship but honestly they're more of a "man" then actual man since they actually know how to treat their female partners. In GWS 203 we saw clips of movies where women have taken the role of power, like M in James Bond, she was the boss, she wore an elegant suit and she was drinking scotch or whiskey. She even told James to stop being an emotional man. There is also a character named Cleo who shows power by using a gun and using aggressive language, she is also shown wearing men's clothing and having an expensive car. Butch femme can also be seen as tomboyism but that more common in young girls as well as hetero women.

What the point of being Homophobic?

As we see June is known as pride month for those of the LGBTQIA+ stand for allies. Not many people are fond with pride month. Most of these people are homophobic ofcourse or just don't understand the point of being gay. In class many parents don't allow their kids to go to college where their queer representation or even their young ones to learn what gay or lesbian is. They protest when pride month gear or clothing are shown at stores. In the reading by Cathy Cohen she mentioned that at the college of NYU there were protesters to kick out queer students because they were infiltrating the school. All queer people desire is to be accepted which is why the pride parade is a great way to show support and become an ally, because queer people are also human and they have every right like every other human. They should be allowed in bathrooms, to marry whoever they want, wear what they want and go to places without feeling like they're not safe and get killed.

Now this topic is hard to talk about but I am a Mexican female who has experienced her share of homophobic in her own family/culture. In a Mexican family it's very much prohibited to talk about queer people, if my parents were to find out any of my friends were gay I wouldn't be allowed to hang out with them because then I'll turn gay.... Jokes on them I ended up coming out as bisexual in 2022 to a few of my friends but then I went through an identity crisis and found out I was not Bisexual so were still working on that, but I am Ace sexual but I can never talk about this to my parents because I could be kicked out of the house. My mom's family side has queer relatives, my uncles are gay and one does drag and my aunt is bisexual so I am confused why she is so against it. My dad is still in machismo era , meaning living in the past, women should do the cleaning and serve their man and not be whores in the streets, he doesn't like it when my mom is out shopping with us or alone and hates it when she on the phone relaxing while his sleeping and chilling in bed. Sometimes he steps up and does the dishes or cleans the house but does it in the worst way possible. Mexican people are known to keeping the gender norms by the book they don't like change , boys should be boys and girls should be girls, no such thing as butch femme or tomboy. But they draw the line when daughter show too much but they wants us to dress up more feminine, it is very confusing. Us Mexican kids desire to be accepted as who we are to our parents, they say they want to give us a better life but yet they're controlling our every move.
