Mr. and Mrs. Johansaen were just pretending that there was no war and everything was fine, and there was no war. This is them just even though they know, they are pretending and sort of protecting themselves like they are doing for Kirsti. So they dont have to think about it as much.

There was a mysterious pound on the apartment door! This connects because there is so much war going on so it was probably the soldiers at the door. This also connects to war because the soldiers are always up at night and day basically ALL DAY------24/7.
