The Jeffersonian era, named after Thomas Jefferson, occurred when Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were presidents of the US. It was one of the two dominant political movements in the United States from the 1790s to the 1820s. The Jeffersonians were very opposed to what they considered to be artificial aristocracy opposed against corruption, and insistence on prioritizing "plain folk." This term was also commonly used to describe The Democratic-Republican Party. During this period the country was involved in westward expansion and nearly doubling the country's size with the purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France.

The Era of Good Feelings began in 1815 in the mood of victory at the end of the War of 1812. Jubilation replaced the terrible political divisions between the Democrat-Republicans and Federalists and the North and South states. This era marked a period in US history that brought a desire of unity in the aftermath of the War of 1812.
