However, in the 19th century, it was known for being a fabric symbolized by the working class and political radicalism.

Going back in time even farther, The fabric originated around 200 B.C. in Egypt. The city of Fustat had given it the name "fustian", which was a heavy cloth that shared the same qualities like velvet and moleskin. In the medival period it was given to Europe which was passed along to Italian and Spanish Merchants.

Now in 1774, that is where we see the name change gradually. the French “corde du roi” means the "king's cords". This would be a combination of cord and duroy, which is a coarse woollen cloth, but others think it may have been given a French-sounding name by British merchants in an effort to capitalise on the vogue for French textiles.

According to the my response for the "Fashion Industry" assignment I explained textile mills produce knitted or woven fabric from yarn, what most would call “griege fabric” or unfinished fabric"(Baugh, 2011,pp. 23-24). Knowing Corduroy is a woven fabric, this article dives more in a simplistic way about the different types and how they are sustainable to our environment.
