Engage: this is when you intrigue the students and grab their attention by asking questions, or stating a problem that needs solving.

Explore: this is when the students get to discover and interact with all of the materials involved in the activity. This is also a time for the instructor to ask questions that guide the students and clarify their understanding.

Explain: this is when students communicate and collaborate to look over data or observations. The instructor helps to further explain and give correct terminology. This is when the students document what they are seeing, touching, smelling, hearing, and learning.

Elaborate: this is when students should connect to prior learning and expand on their understandings. Instructors should make sure students understanding is solid in this stage.

Evaluate: this is when the teacher and student see whether or not they truely grasped the concept.
