The American dream was started on the hope of practicing a freedom of religion, the King of England despised Christianity, so there were a few brave settlers who had the courage to take a chance at civilizing in a new land far away.
These early settlers called puritans wanted this voyage because of their devote faith of Christianity, Hardman explained, “Moore's "pilgrims" came to the "city on a hill," not as idealists but hoping to create a New Jerusalem that England might imitate”.[1]

This created a gap between the religiously devoted Catholics and puritans because some only went to make quick but risky money.
Linda Peck, made a point that, “England's population increased by over a million between 1601 and 1651 sustained by new crops and methods that allowed farmers to extend land under cultivation”.[1]

Money, Power, Religion

These early settlers were not all devoted Christians but maybe they disguised themselves so they could start a new life, with the outlook on growing very wealthy.
J.J. Butt made a point, “England experienced a change from a communal relationship with the land to one of personal ownership and the individual right to manipulate and exploit the land. This led to increased wealth, a widening gap between rich and poor, ultimately to the Industrial Revolution, and through this unbalanced relationship with the land, to the destruction of the environment today through the rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere”.[1]

To conclude this essay we can take a few obvious facts away, the devoted Puritans wanted to come over to evangelize, and or practice a freedom of religion. These people also, wanted to get away from a poor economy and overpopulated Island that was full of disease and bad politics. This was their one and only opportunity for lower class and poor individuals to go and make a life for themselves or support a family. These were the tools that King Charles wanted to use in order to fulfill his debts from the war and create a cash flow into the economy by importing and exporting with taxes.
