The title: “Heaven & Hell in the Anthropocene, Two scenarios of Eternity” The artist’s name: Bahia Shehab The project: Part of COP27

I chose this artwork because I think it shows the realistic environment that we are facing. Climate change is an emergency problem globally. We need to pay attention to it and have change to save our living environment. The artists use this installation artwork to present hell and heaven, including the real temperature, natural sounds, and surroundings in each room. The visitors have an authentic feeling when they visit "hell" and "heaven." I feel the project is great because after people visit it, they are told to fold an animal-shaped origami to remind them that the animals are facing this problem. I think this project is very convincing and has the power to make people pay attention to this global issue.

I like how such a small piece of work could mean so much. The installation consists of a large banquet table with place settings for thirty-nine notable women from history and mythology. The settings have gold ceramic chalices and porcelain plates painted with butterfly- and vulva-inspired designs representing Mother Nature, the vagina, and the life-giving properties of being female. The meaning touches so many hearts and this piece is a representation of women's history.

I chose this piece because of what it represents. This piece is based of a prompt answered by over eight hundred + women of different age and ethnicities. With their answers being displayed we can in take a view on the experiences that women encounter, whether it be any type of abuse, racism or overall feeling unsafe in a place that they call home. Women being defined by terms and being downgraded by those around them. It is not always easy to be verbal about what it is encountered, most of the time women tend to stay quiet because they live in fear or simply do not want to be judge because of the words that will come out of the mouths. This piece allowed them to be open, it gave them a voice and they were able to see and read that they are not alone and at times our neighbor may be encountering the same as we are or even worse.

Artwork link: art/https://www.theartstory.org/movement/feminist-art/

I choose this artwork because of how crazy it looks. At first glance, it looks extremely insane, from the plastered on glistening pig heads throughout the painting. It is shocking and was the most eye-catching piece to me in his collection. However, the longer you look at it, the more the message Hung is trying to send becomes evidence. You must get over the inherent shock value in a collage like this. To me, it represents a call to action; a criticism of the richest 1% in the world, specifically in the US. He does so with a busy collage where each section is so much to digest-- from the edited Monopoly board at the bottom, to the cash, and to the motto that lines the margins of the painting, "No bread? Let them eat pie."

Painted by Dutch master Jan van Eyck, this early Netherlandish panel painting is shrouded in symbolism. The elegantly dressed couple are thought to be Giovanni di Nicolao di Arnolfini, and his wife, Costanza Trenta, wealthy Italians living in Bruges. The unusual composition begs several questions. Does the painting celebrate the couple's wedding, or commemorate some other event, such as a shrewdly negotiated marriage contract? Was the bride pregnant, or simply dressed in the latest fashion? And what are the mysterious figures depicted in the convex mirror? The unorthodox placement of van Eyck's signature directly above it suggests one of the men may be the artist himself. I personally went with this piece due to the style of painting and the history behind it. Ive always been fascinated by this kind of art.
https://stacker.com/art-culture/50-famous-paintings-and-stories-behind-them

I chose this artwork because of how Mary Beth Edelson created a collage based on photographs of Leonardo da Vinci's famous mural, replacing the original man with the head of a prominent female painter. In addition to the purely male club depicted in the artwork, it also addresses the subject of women's common obedience to religion. I am also amazed that the painting quickly became known as one of the most prominent examples of feminist art, supporting the movement's goal of countering the historical underrepresentation of women.

To me, it displays the harsh reality of being an intelligent black boy/girl in america. You're seen as a threat. Criminalized and then punished for it. This piece of artwork stands out to me because, as a black man, I've been in countless situations where I've been antagonized by people of different races because they thought I was up to no good, I've been bullied by some of my peers when I showed signs that I have high intelligence, and the list goes on.

The future is a piece of artwork that is displayed using 206 light bulbs. The light bulbs represent each of the sovereign states around the world.
I chose this artwork because it represents the issue of the death penalty. Some people who are given the death penalty are innocent. However, there are some people that who are not considered innocent the Death Penalty has been a global issue even though a lot of countries had chosen to abolish the rule. There was a dramatic increase in executions, the article states "54% more than 2014".
On the other hand, the visuals of the art is very pleasing. On a first glance the lighting of the art seems like it provides a very cozy/inviting background however, it expresses the magnitude of the death penalty dilemma.

After exploring as well as researching from the web, one work that caught my attention was the work of artist Mear One. This is a work he painted on the wall with an eye-catching color combination. I chose this work because the picture looks quite unique painted in different ways in detail about different classes along with the photo which has very valuable meaning. I am impressed with the way the artist distributes those details to the viewer. I noticed a man standing holding a placard and holding it up high as a sign of freedom rom the title of the work, the artist is very interested in freedom and peace for everyone. I think this picture is quite meaningful for me and everyone because we wants power and voice in life to have freedom not only for ourselves but also for everyone in the world.
I found this work in The International Museum for Activist Art from Explore contemporary artist activist sites above. To make it easy for you to find it, here is a link you can click on and view the artwork: https://www.activistart.org/mear-one/
The work I'm talking about is called "Freedom for Humanity", written by an American artist named Mear One (Kalen Ockerman). It is a piece painted on the wall in Hanbury Street in London and created by September 2012. The above work symbolizes the freedom and rights of all human beings.

It is a war diary, where Mila documents the lives of people she meets in Ukraine. I chose this because this was a very emotional pieces that showed the effects of the war on the people of Ukraine, and because the subject matter coupled with documentary photography intrigues me. To me, it is about hope. It is about seeking a better future, and preparing for a worse case scenario. Some of these people never thought they'd be in a war, let alone take up arms themselves. However, they must do what is needed for their people and in hopes of a free future.

This artwork is by the artists Suzanne Lacy, Leslie Labowitz, and Bia Lowe. It was found by scrolling through this link and it is called 'In Mourning and in Rage'. It was an organized demonstration of grief and rage in light of the crimes of the killer known as the Hillside Strangler. During this demonstration 10 women all dressed in black would come up to the front individually and "announce a form of violence against women to which the women in attendance replied loudly, 'In memory of our sisters, we fight back!'" They were expressing their despair and anger not only for the victims, but for the fact that this culture has allowed this to happen in the first place. This took place in 1977 and, unfortunately, the culture of violence against women hasn't diminished in the way they had hoped.
I chose this artwork because I've recently been becoming more educated in the subject of crime against women. I have found it is something I am passionate about especially because it directly affects me. A significant amount of crime is men committing it against women. Whether he knew her or not, too many men make the decision that all the rage they hold has to be taken out on innocent women he comes in contact with. More specifically, and way too often, she becomes a victim of sexual violence; like the victims of the Hillside Strangler. Nearly 1 of every 6 women in America has been a victim of attempted or completed sexual assault and that baffles me every time I remember that fact. If you were to walk into a room with 6 women you know, be it your mother, sisters, cousins, etc. and there were at least six? Chances are at least one of them has been a victim of this type of crime. It is too common that women become the victims of a man's anger, we shouldn't have to be scared to be by ourselves after dark, nor should we be afraid to dress freely because wearing the wrong thing could provoke a man. With the continued incline of these numbers and happenings such as the recent Roe vs Wade result, it is hard to even feel like our country cares for the rights of women. Every day seems like another reason to pack up and leave. When crimes become heavily publicized like they are in the context of this demonstration, the media often sensationalizes the killer rather than pays respect to the victims. Too often is it his name remembered and his victims names lost in an endless ocean of others just like them.

Initially, I had blanked and I couldn't think of a serious issue. Luckily when I clicked on the website, I saw this image and an issue immediately came to mind. The social issue that I think is displayed through "Perfect Garden" is the submission of the masses through phones or the internet. They do this to us without realizing it since we are too controlled by our phones to notice the possible lying or whatever it may be. We are so fixated on the narrative given to us that we don't even notice we're being controlled and I think those controlling us are represented by the lawnmowers. By the time we notice and peek our heads up to see the truth, I guess you can say we are silenced by the lawnmowers, and no one ever even notices. I also noticed the people peeking their heads above the rest are whistling, which leads me to believe that they are whistle-blowers, which is a term given to people who expose illegal activities. So these whistle-blowers are silenced, and the people on the phones either think their crazy or never even notice what happens because they are mowed too fast to even notice. So I think this art piece is a really clever spin on that social issue.

Link: https://www.activistart.org/pawel-kuczynski/

"Save The Planet" by Asis Percales is based on climate change and the need to do something about it. Percales is an illustrator from Spain and creates artwork with an eclectic art style. His work expresses different stories, backgrounds, and experiences. In this case, Asis expresses the effects of climate change through a cumbia like style. At first glance, I really liked the colors and imagery shown in the art piece. What really had a lot of meaning and stood out to me the most was the cracked, dried out earth being held up by hands.

I was drawn to this work of art because of its significance. The Black Live Matter movement raises crucial questions regarding racial injustice inflicted on the black population in the US. But also because US police officers racially profile the black community, many Black Americans are killed by those who are meant to be protecting us. This is why the term "Hand Up Don't Shoot" is used.
https://www.activistart.org/

He was a Mexican caricaturist who specialized in political murals that established the Mexican mural renaissance. The artists work drew me in when I started to wonder why the graduates and professors were standing watch in the back ground as if they were judging the birth going on. This stillborn aspect of the baby could represent student who have failed or drop out of the traditional education system This artwork made me contemplate how we implement early on education and the pressure associated.

Artist: Jose Clemente Orozco

Birthdate: b. 1883 – d. 1949

Artwork Name: “Stillborn Education” orozco_stillborn-education.jpg (1020×680) (activistart.org)

project: Political awakening

Location: Mexico / U.S.

Muralist who’s imagery dealt with corporate exploitation, colonialism and imperialism, systematic injustice, and basic truths about the human condition.
