We swim in our own soup and it is difficult to see. Thinking about what words we choose is huge. I changed to saying "your grown-up" instead of "your parents" to children. Also talking about holidays and speaking about them as a choice that some families practice, renaming "Christmas Vacation" as "Winter Vacation"...endless ways to rethink what I was brought up to think that was "normal".

I will also ask students to write things out on small pieces of paper anonymously, and then collect those pieces of papers and read them aloud to recognize what all students have said.

Last year, my students went to see the Ballet Folklorico performance at HSU and being majority Native students, they were obsessed with the Danza Azteca dance. They told me they felt seen and more confident in themselves.

We also have gone to Su Meg where we were met by a Yurok tribal member that guided us. It made a huge difference having him guide us!
