This is waste from electronic devices but also in hospitals from medical devices and large radiologic equipment. The amount of landfill that could be occupied as these equipment eventually become out of date and need to be replaced is enormous. 
Just one computer can contain hundreds of chemicals, including lead, mercury, cadmium, brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Many of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, respiratory illness and reproductive problems. These chemicals are especially dangerous because of their ability to migrate into the soil, water, and air and accumulate in our bodies and the environment.

By breaking down these large products and providing reuse possibilities, intact natural resources are conserved and air and water pollution caused by hazardous dumping is avoided. University Health Network, which is made up of 4 large hospitals is starting to pay more attention to green chemistry by reusing many of the base products in their electronics and medical equipment.
